I am looking for information on the Aerodynic Lightbar in this picture, Does anybody know how the inside of this bar is set up?

I am restoring a 1999 FDNY GMC like the one in this picture.

I tried looking up some more pics of that GMC and here's what I've found (they are a little bigger too, by a bit):

I believe those AeroDynics are the independent version. From what I can tell, the innards look like this:

O = Rotator

<> = V-mirrors

F&R = Front and Rear Flashers

CF = CrossFire oscillator

() = Endcaps

| = Lense sections

( O | < | O | F&R | CF | F&R | O | > | O )

As for the lense sections, I believe this is the color order:

XX = Blacked-out sections

--- = Chrome lense trim

| = Center bulkhead

R
C R A X | X A R C R

-----------------------

R C R R C | C R R C R

Don't really know if that's how the FDNY set it up, but hopefully somebody here that's worked on those trucks can lend a hand.

If I can get the information I'm seeking, I'll share it with the rest of you. I have been trying to find out the exact setup of that particular FDNY Aerodynic for awhile. It is independent rotators. There are quite a few videos on Youtube of it as it was mainly used on Battalion chief and Division chief suburbans and Excursions. I haven't had much luck trying to get anything out of Federal Signal about this bar but they did tell me that the exact model number is ADL5200FDNY-TCL, TCL being the two traffic clearing Meteor lights in the center of the bar. As stated there are many different videos on Youtube of this bar but here is one I saved that I think shows the lightbar best:

It is hard to tell if it has 2 rotators or 4. Some pics I have seen look like 2, and in another look like 4. Reflection from mirrors, perhaps? Hard to say. I will post more information as I can get it or IF I can get it.

Wow! I was pretty close to what I thought it was, sans the CrossFire and V-mirror theory :D . Watching that video posted by Lightbarnut pretty much settled the question. Interesting configuration for an independent AeroDynic.

That Aerodynic is set up with the following: Fast rotor, flatmirror, Fast rotor, Stationary flasher, Meteor Light. I hope that helps you.

Looks like the rotators are medium speed (120 FPM)

*Update* I have received an e-mail from Federal Signal with an exact PDF drawing of this bar. I don't know how to upload that into this post, so anyone who wants this drawing can pm me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you.

Beautiful southern Georgia!
Major Police Supply in NJ can get you anything you need for that bar as they are the ones that build the chief's trucks for FDNY.

LMAO!! My bad! I was thinking NYPD when I posted that. I completely forgot that Odyssey did the ESU and FDNY stuff. Funny how the majority of the FDNY and all of the NYPD stuff is built in NJ.
