Hi from the Uk . I recently acquired a Federal 77L it’s in quite poor shape externally . It’s missing it’s base and the casings are pretty beat up .
can anyone tell me about these sirens /beacons I know nothing about it . What would it have been fitted too and what era ?
I’d like to try it by connecting it to a power source , is it simply case of positive to fat wire and earth out the casing ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You are correct, positive to the large gauge wire and ground to the casing. Be sure to clamp it down as they have a lot of torque. The small wire coming out of the front housing is obviously for positive to the red light. These could be used on any type of emergency vehicle, fire trucks, fire chiefs cars, police cars, ambulances. I love the "dual tone" sirens, they have a very cool sound.

Well it works! Wow it’s loud ! Neighbours wondered what the hell was going on . Any one know where I can source a mounting base ?

Welcome to eLB @Bods77! There is a forum on this site just for such inquiries:
where you can post your request. This is the type of base you are looking for (on my 78B...same siren but mounted with a PropelloRay):

Here is a Model 18 light I am restoring. We are luck to have an actual chrome refinishing company here in Kansas City.
I'd be happy to help you, please feel free to contact me .
