Federal Signal CP100 A1

I recently came across a Federal Signal CP100 A1 that the seller says hasn’t been used in 10-15 years. It sounds like the screw on the back of the cone fell inside the “bell” housing and I am unsure how to get inside and remove it. I don’t want to test the siren without removing it. There is also 2 wires which are unlabeled and I am not sure which goes to the siren control head and which goes to power. This unit will be going on my privately owned Maxim tiller and I’d like to get it right and not screw anything up, any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance

There should be an acorn nut on the back of the “bell” that holds the siren driver (magnet—like a stereo speaker), cone and projector inside the bell. If it is missing, then the works should pull right out from the front (grab the center horn and pull). The two wires (resembling lamp cord) are the speaker connectors. You can test it with a 9 volt battery. Hold one wire to one terminal and briefly touch the other wire to the other terminal. You should hear a click if the driver is functional.

Thank you, I’ll have to try that after shift.

Both of your CP100's wires go your 100 watt siren amplifier. Neither of the wires of this, or any other, siren speaker goes to power!

Thank you, hopefully it’s just sticking out too far because there is no nut/screw/or anything currently sticking out of the back hole: fingers crossed
Then a good tug on the speaker horn should dislodge the driver/horn assembly from the chrome bell—which begs the question, what is holding this together? There should be an all-thread stud in the back of the speaker magnet that the acorn nut bolts to. That is—literally—what holds the speaker assembly together. Perhaps the stud is what is rattling around in the bell. In any case, more research is required.

The acorn nut only holds the driver in the older speakers.

Newer ones have a bracket made of cast aluminum for the driver

and the acorn nut on the backside is just for the look.
