All the branches have their own fire departments, some are civilian staffed.

I LOVE Pierce Arrow chassis trucks, & they got all the right blinkies. Interesting place to put a flood light up front. It's interesting to see how there is no unity in fire trucks between the various areas of the military...For USCG I've seen KME, for USAF I've seen a lot of refurb KME, and for Army & USMC I've seen a lot of Pierce; almost every truck I've seen (even those in the same branch) has a different design & striping scheme

Chief's vehicle looks solid, with good 360 coverage (assuming no split fail), from what I can see

gaden461 said:
sharp looking pierce and the chiefs vehicle didnt know the army had its own fire dept

All the divisions of the military have firefighters; after Basic Combat Training they generally go through approx 13 weeks of fire training for structural firefighting, shipboard firefighting, ARFF, etc (depending on the branch).

However, there are also gov sites where private sector co.s provide the base fire dept services

The Marines, Navy, and Army all purchase their vehicles in one manner, while the Air Force uses another. While all of the vehicles are technically purchased through a GSA schedule, they are completively bid though all of the major manufacturers, generally for multiple unit orders - which is why you'll find "batches" of different manufacturers within each branch.

Most apparatus manufacturers are under GSA contract. I don't think there is really a rhyme or reason for the different apparatus in the different branches. I know the KME Renegade was popular with the Air Force not too long ago but now they seem to be being replaced by Pierce.

Graphics are nice and I like the NGPI choice here. However, those "mirror beam" lightheads look like they're pointed up at close to a 45 degree angle.

What else is on the lights/siren package here? I see grill lights and the standard intersection vertexes, but I'm guessing there's some rear LAWs and rear window lights?

I haven't seen the rear lights, but the lightbar is Code3 RX, grilles are Ions, vertexes in the housings, I don't recall what the lightheads on the mirrors are or what the siren is.

Unfortunately due to the crappy weather and short amount of time/daylight I wasn't able to shoot any trucks, so I quickly stopped by the 34th St. Shops and got a few fleet vehicles.

Are they dually-certified LEOs/EMT-Ps, or are they strictly medics that work within a subdivision of the PD?

They used to be cops but the program slowly changed to civilian Paramedics but it is still a sub of the Police Department.

I DEF would not want to drive an ambo that is 1st due to an atomic power lab, nuclear facility, etc. I think I'll just let the probies take care of that if one is built in my city :)

It's a beachy area, a lot of sand and tight pathways. All their vehicles are setup with similar suspensions.

I kinda like the idea of unmarked vehicles for chief takehome vehicles...nobody knows who you are, so you can't get flagged down for stupid stuff if you're out of your district, yet you have lights, blinkies, & official plates, so the rest of the ppl prob won't mess with you ;-) Our admin chiefs have unmarked white Issued SUVs & since they drive around all over the place (as I'm sure the vollie chief does with his tahoe), they don't worry about being noticed until they're paged & turn the blinkies on
