A Fort Worth police officer has been injured in a crash on Interstate 30 near Ederville Road Thursday afternoon.
The officer was involved in a high-speed chase on rain-soaked roads when the crash occurred. Aerial footage from Chopper 5 showed the officer's car next to a tree partially ripped from the ground.
After the crash, dispatch called off the pursuit of the motorcycle.
Terry Grisham with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department said that his department requested assistance from the Fort Worth Police Department in stopping two motorcycles.
The motorcycles were spotted at a house where there were believed to be a large amount of drugs. With one of the motorcycles missing a license plate, officers attempted to pull the rider over but they refused to stop, Grisham said.
That's when the Sheriff's department requested assistance from the Fort Worth police.
"We're trying to figure out how our pursuit policy got kind of twisted up. We should never have been pursuing people we didn't know were in possession of drugs. We assumed, but we didn't know. We can only pursue in felony or DWI cases. These [deputies] have some explaining to do," said Grisham.
The officer, whose condition is not known, was being transported to John Peter Smith hospital in Fort Worth.
The press confrence with the Mayor and Police Chief did not look good. They are not giving any information on the condition of the officer, which is pretty standard if it is really bad. They want to get the family there intime to say goodbye. I really hope that is not the case, and that the officer recovers and is safe.
