Walter wants to give you all a preview of a thread that will come next week. Finished up cleaning and rewiring this one and sanding/polishing the domes. Just waiting on the endcap from JDH to arrive to take video and post the thread detailing it.

I'll bet this is the only remaining amber/green S&W bar on the planet. I had no clue they even made green domes for these bars. Come to think of it I've never even seen a clear S&W dome either.

One thing I've always liked about Federal Signal and Tripp Lite green lenses is the shade of green they use(d). Don't know if they still use the same shade on their current lights but I know in the 80's and 90's their green lenses had somewhat of a teal tint to them. Whelen, S&W, Code-3, SVP... pretty much everybody else uses a deeper shade of green. From a distance Federal Signal's green lights could almost be mistaken for off-blue.

Cool thread.

I have green filters / lenses / domes for several lights, including a SVP teardrop, a SVP pancake, a 550 beacon, and a couple of FB3 / FB4 Firebeam / Magnabeams.

I've used them as needed as a command post light for gathering staff prior to an event or activity.

Though not green, these two lenses are both Kopp glass, and both came from Mars lights. Clearly a difference...!!

Has to do with candle power output...In the 70s, as a high school kid working for a FedSig distributor, I was reading studies on the effect of color and material on active light sources in warning equipment. Most has to do with how our eyes function in day/night and the frequency (color) of the light source (blue is “seen” at longer distances than red or amber, but the eye can’t judge the distant to that source as easily as red/amber). Material used to color the light source has a big impact as well: e.g. red lexan will absorb 85% of a bulb’s candle power (cp); blue lexan about 60%; amber 15% (that’s if I recall correctly—I’ve slept since then.). Green is probably somewhere between blue & amber.

Glass is much more efficient allowing much more cp pass through, but red glass is made by adding gold to the molten glass; cobalt for blue = more $$$. The bottom line was, the deeper the color, the less cp passes through. Although less appealing to many, the lighter colors still provide easy color ID and “brighter” light and less amp draw.

I recall KSP in the 70s started putting TwinSonics on their cars with the dark blue domes, but in daylight they were nearly invisible with the standard 35 watt bulbs (they didn’t want to spring for 60 watt bulbs). FedSig’s solution was a lighter blue dome that appeared greenish blue, but still IDed as PoPo (at least to us Southerners ;)).

Two of my red Fire Ball lenses are a slightly different shade from the other. One is a first gen model and the other a second gen and one lens is noticeably darker than the other. I noticed the Fire Ball has two shades of green as well. I also have several SVP 1166 teardrop lights with numerous spare lenses and there are two shades of blue, two shades of green and two shades of amber. The red SVP lens seems to the only color that is consistent over the years, at least to my knowledge. My Cadet lights are the same way, at least the amber lenses. One is noticeably lighter in color and I've seen Reponder's that are the same way.

I think it's just the amount of dye used in the polycarbonate mixture when any particular batch of lenses are made

It's ok just edit the second post down to something else. When you post and the error occurs just close the error and refresh your post is there.

It took me almost an hour to find this picture, for pete's sake! Here y'all go, to drool over.

I might be able to get it back because quite honestly, I don't think it has gone anywhere or had anything done to it since it left my possession... This bar was immaculate, other then the speaker housing dent, which I may have actually done myself. This what what happens when stuff lays around the warehouse forever...
From what I DO remember, this came off a fire truck in a small town, so it saw little-to-no use. I can't remember the sale price other than it wasn't much simply because it was in the way, was getting damaged and would never really go back into service. Other than its collectability factor, due to its color combination, it wasn't anything anybody could really use, around here! I remember firing it up and commenting about how there was too much clear. The red inserts didn't add much color and to the sides, there was none. It should have had red alley windows to add some color to the sides. On a crappy, heavy snow or foggy night, this bar would have pissed me off, if I had to drive that truck... It's hard to tell from the picture but I don't think there were any inserts to the rear, other than for the flashers. I just don't remember...

Enjoy!

as in they wont match each other
If I remember correctly they came in clear plastic or optic, shape didn't change but the new dashmisers were 500 series and 52 series didn't fit them so no longer interchangeable... My colors are green white and amber, only my LEDs for canteen calls are red and white. But those are on my avengers and if whelen will send me what I freaking had ordered I'll have a dominator 4 + with linz6 red white and green.

52 series had no optic, horizontal optics and vertical and horizontal
