I'm not talking about the 5mm led verson that Whelen put out I'm talking about something home made I have a dual dashking thats seen better days the guts are shot but housing is still intact at the firehouse that i am thinking about doing something with.My capt said take it or trash it

Just curious what others have done and trying to think what I can do with it to make something

Yup, I have. And I can tell you, the dashking housing is a really nice base to start from. I used single housings but a dual would work just as well. Get yourself a flat piece of black abs plastic and cut it out so that it fits where the strobes were. Use the existing screw mounts to attach the piece of plastic. Then figure out what LED head(s) will fit in that area.

On a dual housing you should be able to get four 3 LED lightheads or four compact 6 LED lightheads in there (no plastic flanges). I'm talking Whelen TIR/LIN3s or LINz6s right now, but other brands would be similar.

I was actually considering this same project awhile back. I was going to get a dual housing and mount a Whelen M series as I described. I know an M4 would fit or possibly a M6... :undecided:
