How can I modify a Jotto face plate to fit a siren?

My Motto face plate is just a bit off. It is part number 6076 and I need face plate 6097. I would prefer not to spend 35 dollars on a new plate. Any suggestions on how I can get this to fit? I am thinking a dremel tool could be used to make the gap bigger but I don't own a dremel.

What do you think?

Grinder? File? Plasma cutter? Bunch of different ways to make it work. I have never bought a faceplate, I make my own from sheet steel.

If you remove any more of the material from the top or bottom of the opening, it's highly likely that you will not have enough remaning for adequate strength. I suppose it would be possible to nibble out the opening and then reinforce it with a couple of small "L" brackets, especially if the siren is going to sit between two other face plates.

I think you will find that the correct face plate for that siren is actually 1/2" wider which gives enough metal around the opening for adequate support.

If I was in your position, I'd hunt around for a used plate made for that siren and then sell off the one you've got there.
