Where in the programming do I find the option to give the HT750's and 1250's the squelch noise when the radio is keyed up or keyed off?

Uh, MON option? (monitor the channel?)

I assume you are asking to open the channel to listen to the static, when no one is talking..?

When I first read this, I thought sure he was talking about the MDC-1200 identifier 'squawk' that can be enabled either before, after, or before and after a transmission. I did some looking around today, and this is what I have come up with:

I do not have a codeplug in front of me, and I have not enabled this option in a few years. However, going through the help file, it apperas that you need to enable MDC in the Signaling Configuration window by checking the appropriate checkbox, and then go to the Basic tab of the MDC System window, set the PTT ID Type to Pre & Post.

While in the Basic tab of the MDC System window, you should probably also set the Primary ID to an appropriate value between 0x0001 and 0xDEEE and set the Group ID to an appropriate value between 0x0 and 0xEEE. While in the Basic tab of the MDC System window, you should probably also enable the Display Decode ID option so that your HD1250 will display the Primary ID on its screen when any other radio on that frequency transmits its Primary ID.

After the Display Decode ID function is enabled, you could even enable Reverse Aliasing and create a Call List including aliases for other radios by Primary ID. This would allow you to display a custom alias on the screen of your HT1250 for each MDC enabled radio in the Call List.

Good luck!

i tried this in the programming and it didnt make any difference. any other hints/tips?

and yes i'm talking about the squalk when you key up or end your transmition

Ok I pulled up an old HT1250 codeplug I have.

Under the MDC system window click the BASIC tab. It will ask for the primary ID(if you have one, if not 1111 worked for me). Group ID 000, unless you have one.

Nent window on the BASIC tab is PTT ID type. Select with type you want( PRE only, POST only, PRE and POST, etc)

Then are several check boxes.

PTT SIDETONE MUST be selected to get your squalk. THe rest are optional: PL transmit, Display Decode ID, PPT short sidetone(if you want a quick squalk select this vs PTT sidetone), Radio check decode.

Once that is done, you must go into each personality under the siginaling tab and select the TX system(MDC-1)

When all that is complete, reprogram the radio and all should be well.

Hope this helps.

Be sure you are actually using correct identifiers as Steuben County can and is decoding these. Do not just put these on because they "sound cool". I have done radio work for North Hornell and started their identifier system it is as follows first to digits are department number second two are unit number or C then number for chiefs and A and B plus number for portables. Placing an identical MDC id code in all your radios will only confuse others and annoy dispatch. Perhaps you should destroy your illegal copy of CPS and leave this to people who understand it.
