I had no idea what the "Japanese Domestic Market" Purple Patlite was all about; I have seen them for sale and never bought one.

I now have one because the Seller, who sent the item from Japan, added information on the Intended Use and the rebellious use of these teardrop beacons. (Shipping was $15 and only took 8 days)

In short, all Japan private vehicles must carry a Reflective Triangle or Purple Beacon in case they break down. Both, whichever you have, is to be displayed on the ground behind and alongside your stopped car.

As such, the bottom of the beacon is ribbed, like grippy, without a magnet or the like. It also has a spare bulb inside, like the French beacons.
When on it kinda has that red fusee color, like something you might use behind your stopped vehicle, and then start a grass fire.

Racers and car enthusiasts will display this Purple beacon, either on or not, in their back window while cruising the highways or doing donuts and other such mischievous things. Just because it is bright, and flashy, and not it's intended use.

I attached some of the literature that came with it, including a diagram of use.

I didn't know the funeral escort business in Japan was so widespread. I don't think the relatives are going to be able to keep up, though.
But I did like the little animated heart tail light.

I have a little Patlite beacon, a Patlite Mini, as a matter of fact. Bought it years ago on fleabay because it was cheap, like under $20 shipped IIRC.

I want to change the dome from rounded top to can style, but the domes themselves don't ever seem to come up for sale, and all the can style lights I've found are red.

It's made for stationary industrial equipment, like in factories and machine shops and the like.

I just bought a new Cub Cadet XT2 Enduro lawn tractor and I'm thinking of how I can mount the Patlite to that somehow... You know, to warn the rabbits and squirrels.
