Light Suggestion

I am wanting to place something like a Whelen Slimlighter above the rear view mirror in my 2006 Dodge Charger (civilian model). The problem is that it has the little overhead console that has the lights and glasses holder. It is just a tight space and I wanted to know what might fit up there. Pictures would be helpful.

since u have the mini overhead console to work around, how about a pair of the ERM/axixtech hyperion dash lights OR a pair of single avengers (or spitfire plus is the avengers are too big), with one light on either side of the RVM?

If it is really tight, then a Slimlighter is probably one of the only actual dash lights that will work. A Sound Off UltraLite 4 would probably also work if a Slimlighter will.

You could always do a single dash light light left and right of the RVM like pdk9 suggested, but I know you said you are looking for something to go above the RVM and between the windshield and the overhead console.

You could also do some surface mount lights on L brackets if they would be easier to work with and fit the space better. Some Tomar RECT-13s or 14s would surely fit (they even make a headliner bracket too I believe) as would some Sound Off Ghosts. A Tomar 200S might also work.

I installed a Mini Phantom in generally the same area that you are talking about, except I have the light mounted to the headliner, adjacent right, to the rear view mirror. Take a look on facebook, under Custom Installations, Automotive Lighting Specialties. There is a video of a Silver Charger.

I do like that other then not being centered.

Here are some pics from an 08' with a slimlighter.....

In this case I sanded the paint off of the mounts and RVM glued the light to the windshield. I have done this many times with great success. The mounts have to be manipulated to sit perfectly flat against the windshield to accomplish this.

Perfect, but what kind of glue do you use?

That one was done with auto parts store single use rear view mirror glue.

Now I use:

If you attempt this:

-Clean both surfaces thoroughly with alcohol and dry.

-Follow instructions on glue.

-Don't be surprise if it takes a couple of tries.

-If you do have to do it more than once; use a razor blade and alcohol to get both surfaces perfectly clean again before attempting.

Good Luck!

I've done it in an 06 like this:

Used some Able2 LED short brackets to mount to the light and screwed them through the headliner into a speed clip backed with a fender washer. Capped off the screw with a screw cover.

Perhaps a three-section light from Microman or something similar, leaving the center empty so there's only one set of lamps at either end with the middle open? That C-channel stuff is fairly narrow, and the lights are certainly bright enough.

Before I got my interior Pinnacle, I had a (gasp) ETD ET-7 mounted above the RVM on my Explorer. It wedged in their really nicely between the top of the RVM and the front edge of the upper console - didn't even need brackets to keep it in place. Dimensionally it seems pretty close to my Microman bar.

(Yeah, I know most ETD stuff is crap. The ET-7 seems to be the one exception to the rule. And I purchased it before I found this site.)

cajunblitz,
I'm guessing that the original brackets won't let you mount the light the way you have done it?

No, they're a tad too short and won't line up to the Slimlighter at the proper position to get the angle. Even the Slimlighter bail bracket won't work properly because it attaches the same way as the suction cup brackets.

The brackets I used that attach to the Slimlighter and the headliner are from Able2products, part number 11.4474 shown here:

They sell for about $8.50 a set retail.
