I never understood the point of traffic advisors on ambulances ( ambuli? ). Isn't it the P.D.'s job to do traffic control, or in some cases the F.D.'s? I cannot recall once when I was the furthest unit from the scene. Not to mention we need access to the rear! Why would we place our unit in traffic?! P.D., Fire Police, construction; I can see them have the need for front and rear traffic advisors. I also like the view points, but that make Teaneck look tame. Personally I would have gone with a pair of four pod view points and had the three KKK spec lights on top.

I remember those Teaneck rigs! If you think there's a lot of light in the pictures, watch your rear view mirror as one is coming up behind you! All you see is a blur. I have to admit though, the IVPs on the fenders are very effective though!

Maybe where you live police or fire units are dispatched to every call for a sick adult/child, a heart attack, etc.., needing an ambulance, but around here I don't see that being the case. I see a lot of ambulances parked on busy multi-lane streets at a home or business because cars are parked curb to curb and have no where else to park. In those cases a traffic adviser could be of use

Watch them put only a 2-rotator Aerodynic (with cascade mirrors) and the KKK-spec lights on their next one.

Or maybe not...?

A lot of ambulances (and pretty much every medic unit) around here have a Whelen TA on the back set to "flash" at all times. You could argue for or against the rear-end protection. "Hey, flashing lights, I should slow down!" Or "Hey, flashing lights, coooooooool... CRASH!"

Traffic advisers on ambulances are almost always set to "warn" and left like that. I drove once and when I turned the rotary switch to Left Arrow.... there was an outline left in the shape of the knob set to "warn flash".... made by sun fading.

The sad thing is, with all that lighting they still lack the corner "primary" lights

Are those even compliant without having the 900 series on the sides on the upper portions of the box? I mean they put all of that lighting everywhere else, but don't put anything on the sides?

These are hideous and I'm all for lighting up a unit nicely. There is no need for dual front lightbars, and the ones on top of the box are nearly useless that high up. The rears I'm alright with, though I think their lightbars are too high up to be very effective, and the same for the other lights to the rear. They need to be educated on what is good lighting and what isn't, and where to put lighting and where to not. Take the extra lightbar off and redistribute the lights appropriately and they would have some nice units.

That's a nice unit. Huge. Why do they need a crew cab though? Tons of firepower to the front in terms of lighting (x2 mini Freedoms, a 4500 Series LED bar, and x7 Weldon diamond back lights 7x9s up top along with x2 7x9 and x2 3x7s in the grill). That has to be blinding coming at you, though there again that 4500 Series is mounted awfuly high. I'd love to see a video of it lit up during the day and at night.

All the new FDNY ambulances are Dodge Ram 4500 4 door Type I chassis with a Wheeled Coach box, the crew cabs are supposedly to give the crew extra room to store PPE and for more seating comfort.

When I was an EMT there were plenty of times when we were first on scene of wrecks, etc.

But traffic advisers don't really have any point outside of being a general amber-colored warning device. No one in the general motoring public has the foggiest clue what they mean or the message they are intended to convey.

2 front lightbars, several dash lights, and a federal Q. Theres also a lightbar on the back.

Truck on left and center gave Federal pods on the hood corners, and they all have Mars lights on the roof.

We have traffic advisors on the back of our boxes, seeing as they are higher in the air than the police cars, that do not have traffic advisors.

These trucks aren't even close to being KKK complaint.... but remember, like NFPA, KKK isn't law.... so they don't have to follow it. I just think it's funny that with all the extra and questionable lights on these they omitted the main lights on 99% of all ambulances.

I bet you can see those rigs from space !

Just about, I think with those amount of lights and their new rig having 16 tir3s in the grille...yes I counted them 16, and Q and airhorn and electronic 2 speaker siren, they are seen and heard and have enough warning to be seen. I love these rigs and even though everyone thinks its too excessive, which might be true, I think it is just dog gone amazing haha...

I'll go on a limb since Deerfield is a neighboring city, and I grew up there. Rescue or FD usually arrives first at a crash on I-95 (our troopers seem to be spread pretty thin in the area). As for the amber directional to the front, I've seen it in use when the rescue unit ended up sitting against traffic flow. I agree that the only people that seem to understand it are the ones that turned it on or are responding to the scene.

Did anyone else notice in the first video that the rear amber alternating lights weren't on the same pattern? The left was on a quad type and the right was on single flash.

I often have to park on the street to go into houses, and often times those streets are busy. I set the TA to left warn in this case so that cars yield around my rig.

Deer field has the traffic advisors on all of their rigs, even the engines have an advisor under the front lightbar. It's in the youtube video.
