I have a few, and had one gear housing chrome-plated - the portion where the nametag attaches. Very disappointed because of the pitting created during the original aluminum sand-casting manufacturing process - the chrome plating enhanced the appearance of those pits. Did you encounter this, and if so, did you take steps to repair/fill in the pits before chrome plating? If so, how did you accomplish this?

@fyrboy. you can fill up the pitts with liquid aluminum. thats a long process. with a lot of grinding, polishing and new chrome. if i had a choice for a second light. i dont want do this again. so it looks great but its to expensive!

Super-nice restoration! As many of those FLs as I've seen in operation over the years, this is the first time I've seen one broken down to see the "works". My first encounter with an FL was in 1957 when Thomas Funeral Home here mounted one on the rt. front fender of their then-new 1957 Plymouth station wagon ambulance: as if that wagon didn't have enough already, with a lighted Q, four red Unity lights and a 17 beacon behind the Q.

Did the FL use the 1195 bulb, or the larger 1019?
