This LODD is related to the Boston Marathon bombings.

Lots of stuff has unfolded up here in the Boston area overnight, massive shootouts another explosion, etc. Local media is reporting that one MIT Police officer is deceased (reportedly ambushed by the bombing suspects), a MBTA Transit Police officer is wounded and that one of the two suspects in Monday's bombings is dead. An entire town (Watertown, MA) a which is very large and a direct urban suburb of Boston is completely locked down and all public transportation statewide on the MBTA has been shut down. MASSIVE police operations underway.

Police Officer Sean Collier was shot and killed during a large scale manhunt for suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing. Shortly after reports of shots fired on the MIT campus, Officer Collier was found in his vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspects carjacked a vehicle and drove to Watertown, where one suspect was killed during a confrontation with police. The second suspect remained at large several hours later.

Officer Collier had served with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Department since January 2012 and had previously worked as a civilian employee of the Somerville Police Department.

It is over. The first scumbag who was involved in the murder of Officer Collier and the injuring of a MBTA Transit patrolman was gunned down by law enforcement overnight last night after a wild exchange of gunfire and explosives. Just 10 minutes ago, the second lowlife (the first suspects little brother) was taken into custody after an all-day manhunt and a two-plus hour standoff in a Watertown neighborhood where the pathetic coward was hiding inside a tarpaulin-covered boat. The police received a standing ovation from the hundreds of gathered civilians as the suspect was taken away and they cleared the scene. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino broadcast over the BPD radio system "I am proud of the Boston Police Department".

God Bless Officer Collier and his family and extended family on the MIT Police. The MBTA officer is out of surgery and reported to be doing well.
