Hello all.

Has anyone swapped their halogen bulb to an LED for a Federal Signal Firebeam, Dashlaser or similar?

If so, how does it look and what are the LED bulb specs?

Thanks.

The effectiveness of the parabolic reflector in any rotating light relies entirely upon the halogen (or incandescent) lamp's filament being located in just the right place. Any kind of LED retrofit will result in a substantial decrease in output because of the light source not being centered in the reflector.

There have been a great many threads over the years where a similar question was asked and answered. Here are a couple of the more recent ones:

I would think that there would be a decrease based on the fact that the led's that are round with multiple diodes would keep a smaller amount of light emitted in a constantly turning reflector a minor benefit.. but the wider base of lighting would be the reason for decrease in intensity.

I've actually done what you are proposing. Blue firebeam with white led and blue led. Blue led worked much better than white but was still no brighter than a 55w halogen bulb.

What is the bulb type, i might be able to suggest a replacement led. But as sparky said, dont expect it to be brighter, but it will be more flexible in light output and current draw.

I've done this with a dashlaser (didn't work well) and a Five-O light. Five-O light worked well since the bulb doesn't need to hit a reflector. As stated above, that's the biggest issue in getting it to be effective is getting the LEDs to hit enough of the reflector
