Yesterday I also picked up a model 184 and the wiring was pretty rough. Does anyone know how to wire the positive and negative from a battery. All component wiring is intact.

Just run your postive to your L bracket. Connect ground to one of the bolts holding the plate.

You can connect the ground anywhere on the light except where the positive wires are connected. I you connect them and nothing works your motor could be froze up. Don't apply power for too long of a time if it doesn't move, it will heat up. If the motor does not work, I can likely fix it. I work on motors, just let me know. it's cheap.

I had it hooked up to a batt earlier and it ran fine, now the lights were dimmed but that may be because of where i hooked up the ground. A bulb was gone but other than that it’s good to go.
On a side note, the dome has a crack in it and i don’t know what to do, any suggestions?

Nothing you can do for a cracked dome. If it's not too bad and it dispays well, you can just keep it and rotate the crack to the back. It is not hard to find a new replacement. You can use a Stratolite 80 on these if you find one of those. They look nice on these lights. Original federals are not to hard to find. A good dome will cost about $100 now. Amber might be a little cheaper if your not picky on color. You can advertise on here an see who has one for sale and/or check Ebay. You do need to get the rust off of the parts so it doesn't continue to be an issue in the future. A good ground is a must for these too.
