Motorola pager question

Hi,

I have seen online that some people are "pager care technicians". Is anyone here one or know how to become one? I am interested in getting the certificate or whatever that is so people can have more trust in me dealing with their pagers. Basically I want something to show I know what I am doing, and also learn some things I do not know.

Thanks!

Motorola also required techs to have a certificate from a third party. It has been a while since I worked for a dealer. I dont remember who the certificate was through. Something like Electronics Association of America, or Electronics Technician Association....something like that. All techs had to be Certified Electronics Technicians through the association first in addition to the specific Motorola certification. There are testing centers all over the country that administer the test for the association. Training is usually arranged by the Motorola dealer that you work for. I don't know how that process worked.

What pagers are you working on? Not many are repairable anymore. All that's usually done at the depot is replace the Tanapa and housings.

Just the Minitor series. I was looking to do this as a side job, but seeing as you need to work for a dealer, I may not be interested in it. I mainly wanted to program pagers for my local FDs and rescue squad. I have a programmer, but my chief didn't want me programming many of them because I wasn't certified or something blah blah blah. But yet we pay the local guy $$$ to program our stuff without vibrate and other features some of us like. I know, he is old school.

Just offer to specific individual members to fix their pagers. Neither of the agencies for which I volunteer will endorse me for that specific reason but the members go to me for the mods that they desire.

Yeah same here, my chief is worried about the warranty being voided or something, even though your allowed to program them yourself. I also just add certain features to some specific individual members as well :D Our next chief wants me to program for us though
