Which version of the PA20A is that?

If the serial number begins with 2B, 2C, or 2D it's a late 1960s version with low-pitched wail and yelp tones.

If the serial number begins with 2E it's a 1970s version with high-pitched wail and yelp tones.

The car in the TV show had a PA20A. The 1968 Plymouth Belvedere and the 1971 Plymouth Satellite would have had the late 1960s version, while the AMC Matador may have had the 1970s version.

The siren sound that was dubbed in for the Adam-12 patrol car was a recording of a PA20, a much older siren. The PA20 has wail, yelp, and alert tones and was manufactured from about 1962 to 1966.

I thought Adam-12 had a Director PA15 siren? I remember Squad 51 had the Interceptor PA20. I used Interceptor as my CB handle in the 70s

I have all three variations of the blue faced Interceptor siren:

PA20: wail, yelp and alert tones, c. mid 1960s. Low pitched tones, sounds like the Adam-12 siren.

PA20A series 2C and 2D: wail, yelp, and hi-lo tones, c. late 1960s. Low pitched tones, slow rising wail tone.

PA20A series 2E: wail, yelp, and hi-lo tones, c. 1970s. High pitched tones like the sirens we hear nowadays.

The PA15 and PA15A are the economy or 'no frills' versions (wired-in mic, metal control panel, and screw terminals). The PA15 has wail, yelp and alert tones and the PA15A has wail and yelp tones only.
