Just in, my latest oddball siren. Dietz Omni-Sound pushbutton siren, probably from the late 70's to early 80's?? Any info would be appreciated. I had heard of them, but had never seen one. C'mon Wailer, enlighten us!

The pushbuttons look the same as those on the Smith & Wesson Magnum 500, but the control panel is completely different. There were Dietz Omnisounds that looked identical to the Magnum series and I would guess that they were made in the mid-1970s. You Omnisound looks like it might be newer. Someone told me that the Magnums and the pushbutton Omnis were made by Carson.

I have a Dietz Omni-Sound of the kind that look like the S&W siren.

I bought it in 1975.

I usually like Dietz products due to their high quality but my Omni-Sound siren do not sound like I want it to do.

The wail sound goes down in sound output when it coast down to the low frequencies.

The Smith & Wesson Magnum sirens have a slow rising wail tone and a 'wah wah wah' yelp tone that are similar to the late 1960s Federal PA15A (series 1D and earlier) and PA20A (series 2D and earlier). The Dietz Omnisound sirens that look like the S&W Magnums should sound the same. They were both made by the same manufacturer.

I'm veering a little off topic here, but I thought I'd add that Smith & Wesson had a light bar that looked identical to the Dietz Omni Chief. So there seems to be a bit of overlap between Smith & Wesson and Dietz products made in the 1970s.

Yes, Dietz made the bars for S&W prior their own bars was introduced in 1978.

I have a NOS S&W 7700 with PAR46 sealed beams.

Unfortenatly without the lenses.

The model I have is the Dietz Omni-Sound 14-380 and it is shown in the 1971 catalog.

The model 14-450 that is shown here is in the 1974 catalog and in the following catalogs.

The rotary selector switch model 14-550 is stated as new in the 1981 catalog.
