I’ve got a super beacon Ray model 174 serial 2N10D9. Looks like there’s two bulbs on this unit which may have originally had 4 and it isolates but the lights do not come on. Looks like one of the bulbs has a filament still but the other one is definitely missing. Anyone got a wiring schematic for this model or know where to look for one?

see my awesome paint skillz.

On other 4 bulb beacon rays.. 175, 176 there are 2 12v+ leads to have the option to only power 2 bulbs at a time. This may still be the case with the 174, but I am not seeing that here..

174 diagram.jpg

12v+ is coming from the post as seen in the picture.
12v Ground is to the 2 screws on the top of the cage.
You will need to rewire so you have 4 leads similar to the existing 2 for +
and 4 leads for ground for the bulbs.
Correct Bulb is GE4416

As for what is going on in the 2nd picture I have no idea.. that looks like a cluster f****

From here I'd bet the tall can 537 flasher for a pair of some other lights mounted to the board astride the beacon.

nice, I was not going to take my 174 apart to show this.
@Chippergee1 the image above is where the bulbs ground to.

Between this picture and the one I modified.. it should be self explanatory.

I am concerned by the presence of a flasher...possibly indicating a non functioning gearbox. Discard it and the wire nut!

Here’s how the underside of a 174 should look like (because mine is on a display, the ground is attached to the gear housing):

The 12v power wire attaches to the brass “L” terminal (yellow terminal on left). The motor and brush leads attach To the other end of the bracket. The brush makes contact to the round conduit that is attached to a rod that is inside an insulated tube that comes out at the top of the bulb cage (as shown in @Stampeed Valkyrie’s very helpful photo). All bulbs should have one wire that connects to that terminal. The other bulb terminal grounds the bulb as in @fyrboy‘s most excellent photo.

If you wire it up as we have indicated, you should have a fully functioning Super BeaconRay. Hope this helps!

Put in some 4509 aircraft landing lights and you'll kill bacteria three miles away!
Yeah, but those are 100 watt bulbs, so you need a high amp power source and better use a glass dome unless you like melted plastic.
