So I was bored the other day, and was helping a friend of mine install some leds in his instrument cluster. Well, he had one single led left over, so took apart my 295SL100 to see if there was any room in there for it. I installed one of Oznium's surface mount, pre-wired led's, just to be a little... different, thought it would look neat with a little different color. The leds' can be seen here on their website: Tiny Prewired Super Bright Surface Mount LEDs - 12V DIY Plug and Play SMT LED. I am very happy with the outcome of it, several pics below. This light has the resistor built in, so it only requires a 12v power source. The light was grounded on one of the transformer studs, and the positive power is coming from the switch, where the light comes on with the switch being in the "On" position, along with the original back lights. I left the original backlighting in place, as this single led greatly overpowers the ones that are already installed. The light, as you can see in the pic, is mounted on the top, left side of the transformer, facing the faceplate. (I guess thats a transformer? Right? I don't know :weird: ) Hope you like it! I am certainly pleased with the outcome.

Those are sweet. Im going to get some of those and try them out on a few things. Is the quality good?

Yeah, so far no problems. A while back I purchased one of these Piranha Bar for the back of my suburban for a little extra light, and it is extremely bright! But looks like they have since replaced it with something else. As far as the back light goes, it has kind of a purple-ish tint to it because the original amber lights are still on (after I got it mounted). But so far I have been happy with them, and my buddy has not had any problems out of the ones he put in his instrument cluster.

That is sweet. I've done thing like this with SW300 boxes before. I've always wanted to change some of the button LED's on a Smart Siren to different colors.

So a friend of mine got this 295SLSA1 from eewllc.com, I showed him the backlighting on my SL100 and he loved it. We wanted to match the color of his interior lights (kind of a teal color in his 2010 Camaro) but they did not have any LED's close to that color other than blue or white, so we went with a white. I really like the way it turned out. It seems like the panel is very thin for some reason, and lets too much light through. But anywho, here are some before and after pics, let me know what you think!

So when these were put behind the dash, did you disconnect the stock gauge lights or just add these? Did you replace them one for one?

I guess I am asking how many are needed for a typical dash installation?

I m sure you could, but these particular LEDs come with a resistor built in already, and only require 12vdc.

That's a cool way to mod the backlights in any siren! Maybe I should do this with my SVP SA500 siren, even though it's not installed in anything:undecided:. The current LEDs in it are not very powerful to show all the lettering.

I finally got one of the Oznium surface mount pre-wired LEDs in cool white and wired it into my SVP SA-500 siren tonight. It blows away the LEDs that were already in it and looks 10 times better too! Ultimate D's idea is a definite home-run. If anybody needs to spruce up their backlighting in their siren console so they can see it better, these Oznium LEDs are the way to go! Here are a couple pics of the finished project.

Thank you! That turned out great. I love it!
