So I picked up this NOS. I thought it was a rotator, but it flashes. It's still cool and all. I do have a question though. There are three sides to the internal lens system. It seems weird to me to not be able to put at least one beam straight forward and one straight back. What gives? How were these usually mounted?

It's a case of making a low cost flashing light while using existing parts inventory. Used on forklifts etc. Not very effective, as you say. It would have been more effective 360 degrees using a bare 50cp bulb under the dome like the Whelen CLEAR-RAY FLASHER100025_7a79c7bb63a300d5d9c19189e94253d0.JPG
