Here are some pics I got while I was in NYC earlier this month. Apparently NYPD started using exterior ballistic door panels and window protection recently. I have a few agencies. The MTA apparently likes their bars raised high. Nice to see some older bars still in use. There is a NJ Municipal Harbor Security CV I saw too. One of the two bulbs were actually working on the mini bar. East coast seems to have far more CVs still in service then the west. LRPD seems to favor Chargers. Aside from the cart, there were many Chargers around, parked anyway.

The ballistic door skins & windows are 2-3 model years running following the assassination of POs Ramos & Liu

What are the two black boxes mounted to the trunk lid of the patrol car?

I would have thought they were using those boxes for Rat Control... you know the Camera catches a Rat sticking its head out of one of the gutters and the Lazer Fires killing it... But Damn those readers are HUGE! And Drilled in to the trunk no less... Poor Vehicles with all these Holes to Promote Rust.

NYPD has been using the exterior ballistic door panels and interior window panels for a while now....you’ll see it on virtually all of the current gen interceptor utility SUV RMP (the one with the headlight cutouts for intersection ions). I believe they initially ordered the the SUV utilities for CRC (since they have more equipment like long guns), but then I saw them in HWY & various PCTs. They’ve definitely improved their RMP lineups (I hated the Altimas & Fusions for RMP use), but they still have that stupid rear message bar instead of a TA. Either the RMP is hauling ass way too quickly for anyone to read them, or distracted drivers are driving too fast (instead of slowing down) around emergency vehicles to read them IMO.

MTA in NYC is the only public transportation agency in NY that I’ve seen with red to the rear (NY V&T only allows red/white is just for emergency vehicles with siren privileges), but then again, MTA express buses have flashing blue lights (only allowed for VFD/VFC POVs) up front to indicate that they’re express route buses

The MTA stopped using the flashing blue lights on their Select Bus Service buses several years ago, the now use an LED sign with a blue background instead. I have seen some MTA sedans with Blue/White lights to the front and Red to the rear, but they are not too common.

Recently they bought a few emergency response trucks that have a mix of red, white, and blue lights.
