OKLAHOMA CITY - A four-alarm fire has destroyed part of a condominium complex in the 14400 block of N. Pennsylvania near Quail Springs Mall.

The fire started just before 3 p.m. on the balcony of a condo at Quail Springs Condominium Complex. That's just east of the mall.

The fire then spread to the attic of the building.

When crews arrived, large flames were shooting from the roof and smoke was pouring from the building. At first, firefighters were getting the upper hand on the flames, but then gusty winds whipped the flames; the fire flared up and swept through the building.

Firefighters went into defensive mode and pulled out of the building. Moments later, the roof collapsed.

The building did not have fire walls because it was built back in the '80s.

Police are asking drivers to avoid N.W. 145th Street and Penn because smoke in the area is affecting traffic.

Everyone inside the condo escaped the fire safely. It's not known what started the fire.

Fire officials say 16 units at the complex were affected.
