The NYPD and FDNY both seemed to know that putting more than just a lightbar on a unit was a good idea pretty early on, before most other places.

Great pics; thanks for sharing!

I was surprised at all the Code 3 stuff...didn't think there was much of it there (mostly FedSig / some Whelen).

Some of the AdvantEdges had some interesting combos too.

I wonder how some of those 3-wheeled Cushmans didn't tip w/the big Whelens on top. lol

NYC*EMS was a big user of Code 3 XL bars, before the merger with FDNY.

Did not know that. There were alot more MX's in those pics than I would've expected.

I also noticed quite a few of the Aerotwins with domes "flipped" & having red/amber to the front & rear.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of amber to the front of emergency vehicles...

I always figured that was a field replacement using 2 passenger or 2 driver side domes...

I was able to obtain a couple of FDNY AdvantEdge bars with those candy strip lenses a few years ago. One is on a rescue vehicle at my former VFD. It has FDNY as part of the serial number and was obtained from a FDNY vehicle that was parked near the WTC on 9-11. It only had some cracks on a couple of the lenses and the endcaps, but those were easily repaired. The vehicle was moderately damaged from the collapse of the buildings and later sold as scrap to a fire truck rebuilder, along with a couple of other damaged vehicles. One of those vehicles also had an AdvantEdge that I was able to get and another elightbars board member now has it. The third vehicle had an AeroTwinsonic that was that was sold before I could make an offer on it. I heard the rebuilder was able to get more of these vehicles but have not checked in with him lately to verify it.

I think the AeroTwinsonic up in to the early 90's and then it was the vision?
the last cars to have the aerotwins were the 1990 caprices and the last vans to have them were the 1991 fords after that ther went to visions and jetstreams respectivly.

If anyone knows the year, make, purpose or anything else about these vehicles please post a comment on the picture and i will credit you in the description. there are a few which that have me stumped.

Apparently NYPD still likes lightbars for large apparatus, they have switched to all-light StreetHogs in recent years. Since these are now discontinued, I wonder what's next?
