I wonder if the Saltlake Celeberty and the military K Car are PPV's. Chevy did make a PPV Celeberty though there was not much specail about it aside from a big alternator and some suspension mods. However the K Car PPV had a Mitsubishi turbo on a Mistubishi 4 cylinder in that light weight car. It was a dangerous car becasue it could out drive itself, it was to fast for the suspensiln and steering to keep up with, and the tiny brakes would fade after the frist hard stop.

We used this Plymouth Gran Fury in my criminal justice class from 99-01. I know they had it for years prior. It was a pile! The headliner sagged, the lightbar would stick, engine troubles. Even if you hit the lightbar, it would rotate once or twice and stick again. Its an old Yankee bar. The trunk was stuck and when we retired this car for the car below, we pried open the trunk and there was another Yankee bar in there in pieces.

My senior year, I got a local police dept to donate an outgoing cruiser. I worked with one of my teacher who was on that city's council. We ended up with a 93 Chevrolet Caprice and pretty good shape

Here it is at my parents house in 2001 a couple days prior to delivery so I can clean it up some (wash, wax, etc). The city left the word "POLICE" on the side. If would never leave the school grounds anyway so nobody cared. The siren, controller, lightbar and cage were left in also. It was more like a senior gift to the instructor for classes to come. I pulled it in to the back of the school with lights and siren going and my teacher was stunned at the gift.

I'm partial to the 85/86 Mustang LX 5.0 with the short Whelen bar but I had 2 5.0 cars...an 86 gt and a 92 LX....that's how I taught myself EVOC...

The Diplomat / Gran Fury just LOOKED like a police car, and they were work horses, but I hated the uncomfortable bench seats, not to mention driving down the road one evening and having the airbag blow up in my face for no reason!

There was no winning with late 1988 to1990s police sedans. The Chryslers blew air bags and had those dumb shin bangers, the Caprice front doors came open on their own, pulling the driver out becasue the seatbelts were attached to the doors, and the LTD Crown Vic couldnt stop or turn if it got up to speed in the first place! The Chryslers were the first PPV with air bags, followed by the Ford in 1990 and the NBS Caprice in 1991. And your right crescentstar, no other car screamed POLICE louder than the Diplomat and Gran Fury. It seemed like every one on the road was some type of official car or taxi. I grew up in a town that ran both Gran Fury's and Caprice's.

The K-cars were actual Police Packages. Although their limitations were obvious very quickly, they became popular as detective cars in many cities such as Toronto or Montreal.

MP in Europe had a bunch of them in this lousy pastel-green colour (But no lightbar as far as I can remember from visiting Mons' SHAPE in the late 80s...)

You never did say what the skinny was on that shot-up cruiser!

Was that a "training exercise" or was that an incident? That bar

looks pretty beat for a regular-service unit, so I'm guessing that

this was "final training exercise" before sending this land-yacht

to the big Public Works Garage in the sky.... :D

My first patrol car was a Dodge Diplomat that had the 318 replaced with a 340. Sweet car but the brakes sucked. Had the Federal Visibar on it. You guys are right, the Dodges screamed POLICE!

What is the bar on the mustang with the flat pancake-looking lights? Are those actual pancake lights mounted on a cross-bar?

DPD posted a car history page on their facebook.

This was the first car with the blue stripe. It won a best design award. It was also the only V bar on a DPD car.
