While not totally an install, we did make up these domes for going to Non-Blue volly light states. The guy that owns this truck goes to the Southern states alot for work. He was constantly having to pull out the blue filters on his bar. The Sheriff had a bunch of these nasty clear MX domes lying in storage. He gave us a few sets and we bought a $1.36 can of flat black plastic paint. We also used some old plexi for the lower deck lights. It sure beats pulling filters every couple weeks. And yes, I know the one dome doesnt have clips. We were removing the domes when i took the pict. Just an idea for old domes.

Nope, pretty sure Cali allows steady-burning white lights to the front and sides.

Hello Last time I checked PA has laws against takedowns and alleys. Your only allowed 1 spotlight. Now I don't know of many tickets wrote for the one I see but still could be an issue.

Very cool idea... But I've never had any problems traveling in southern stated with my Avalanche in it's current set-up.

And in PA, you aren't allowed any roof mounted forward facing white lights to be on while driving on the roadway. But you can have them...

Anyone can have ambers in Calif.

But technically they must be covered or removed when not in use....

As long as your not in motion with them on they can be considered off road lights or deer spottin lights in pa.

I've seen the "Out-of-Service" covers, but never heard of anyone ever having a problem when going to different states? Is this a big problem?

I've live in MI and have always traveled to surrounding states and to FL a few times with all red lights on my truck.....Have I just been lucky?

Red lights aren't generally the problem, blue lights are. In states that have blue lights only for LE you have to cover or remove the lights.

as a previous CA resident involved in both L/E and Vol Fire .... almost any type of lighting is illegal, thanks mostly to the "Red Light Bandit" .... they usually leave those with amber to the rear only alone, but....

Only headlight & fog lights are allowed to be used while on public streets. NO white light shining to the rear is allowed per the Veh Code and "Off-Road" lights must be covered when not "off road" .... unless some of that has been amended in the last 4 years

I just noticed that you dont have the spring clips on the drivers side... I would assume that they did in fact get installed after the pics were taken... LOL

Amber, clear, and green are pretty much left alone in CA. I lived there for years and all of the security cars trying to look official ran green filters in their bars with amber arrow sticks. I am sure that is one of those laws that if you are driving around being an idiot you 'could get effed with,' but under normal conditions wouldn't. As a matter of fact, I am sure the majority of law enforcement in CA isn't aware people can't have amber since utilities, security, escorts, etc all have it.

Did you paint the insides as well so if is starts to fade, peel, etc. on the outside during a trip the blue won't show?

We did the paint on the inside actually. As far as the "Out of Service" lettering, its not a Dept. vehicle, so we didnt see a reason to do that. He has been running it now for several months and has had zero problems with it. One officer at a gas station told him it was an excellent idea. Like I said before, for $2, it couldn't be beat.
