Hi all:

Recently acquired this Owl Light beacon. Wondering if it might be a re-badge...any ideas?

I would say not a Trip-Lite. They never made close to that design. Maybe more like a Dazl-Ray, or even early Mars based on some of the design features that I see?? The bulb holders even look like a version used by Sireno. ????

Why would you say not a tripp lite, same trademark design but different name, it reminds me of whelen sold by galls as the Street Thunder name, possibly licensed to owl for them to sell under their brand and maybe someone modded it after the fact?? Just thinking out loud here :)

Tripp lite never made any sealed beam lights with any similar design. Usually on a rebadge the light is similar design to their regular line, except for the tag. The tag has similar circles to Tripp's tag, but oval instead of rectangular. I say just coincidence that they also used 2 circle design. I am sure in my mind, based on 55+ years of collecting, that this is not Tripp-Lite. Could I be wrong? You never know!

Well a quick search shows that the Owl Lite name is currently owned by a company called Stinson up in Canada, if that helps.

Well yeah the circles was making me think licensed to owl for sale by them, that's why the oval tag, but as I was thinking it's like certain companies now are not allowed to have similar looking designs or characters or whatever they say, the courts are very picky about that, I have a friend that has an old man plumber, another local company thought because they moved into the next county that it was open season on the name and character, boy did they learn a lesson and they are still not done yet ...
So that's what had me thinking licensed to resell like falls, same product and guts different name.

There are several similarities with Do-Ray.

The spring loaded lampholders are more or less identical with what Do-Ray use but this one do not have the ”bridge” with the upper part for the upper sealed beams holders.

Instead the contact strip holds the sealed beams together.

The lower turntable and sealed beam holders are identical.

The base, bezel with three screws and the lens are identical with Do-Ray.

I guess this is an early rebranded Do-Ray 2002 from the 60’s.

It matches one of the images I have of a Do-Ray 4002. Do-Ray had at least three different versions of this beacon, each having a different style lamp holder assembly.

I wrote Do-Ray 2002.

Naturally it should be Do-Ray 4002.

I will also add that the name tag is typical for Do-Ray.

It has the same shape and as new it is red but bleach to the same orange colour as this one have.

Here is a photo if a Do-Ray 4002 in my possession, made in 1973.

Michael I think you are right. There are no Identifying markings on the lense of this Light. Do you have a photo of the motor, and is it a worm gear drive like this one?

You have the same type of motor Mars used on their earlier RB beacons.

This is the motor in mine 4002 that was actually made in November 1972.

Here you have another 4002 that is up for sale on Facebook that was made in March 1969 that have the same motor as mine have.

Both of these lights have the ”bridge” that holds the upper lampholders and the springs are not used anymore on these.

Yours is to what I can tell an earlier version that probably is from early 60’s or even late 50’s.
