Scanner Issue

Okay, experts. I am stumped:

I have had a BCT15X scanner in my Ford Escape for years with no issues. It was mounted in a Havis console, hard-wired, and the antenna was a multi-band scanner antenna mounted on the drivers front fender due to height restrictions in my garage.

Recently, I purchased a used Uniden BCD996P2. I used it in my house for a couple of months with no issues. I then decided to mount it in my Escape, replacing the BCT15X. The same antenna and power cable was used for the new one as the old one. I literally unplugged one scanner, and plugged in the other.

A couple of days later, I took a 7-hour round trip road trip. The scanner performed flawlessly. Since then, however, anytime the scanner picks up traffic, it will shut off and restart. I can't copy a full transmission ever.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

to eliminate installation issues, test the 996 on a bench power supply, or swap the old 15X back in. Next thing I'd try is a factory reset.
