I have a flat panel setina cage and want to add the vertical weapons mount, setina says there is a retro kit. do i cut my current partition. Any information anyone can provide would be great.

Yes, you have to cut the cage. There's a pressed metal replacement that slips into your cut and bolts to the cage. The mount bolts to that I believe.

We had 2-3 of these before we started buying specific cages.

Are you looking at a single mount or double mount? Honestly, I'd rethink it. I HATE the double vertical. You can't get either the 870 or AR out in any sort of hurry. Co-worker put the barrel of the 870 into the windshield during an occupied stolen F stop. Windshield spidered and had to be replaced. Also, these are all mounted in CVPIs.

I'd like, and prefer, the 870 to be up on the cage across the roof and the AR on a mount in the trunk. But, that's just me.

rwo978,

A trick I've done is to cut the traditional 870 "Cruz" locks to allow for one handed removal of the shotgun. About almost 1" is cut off the lip of the lock. It gets filed down (I use a fiber grinder), take an industrial paint pen to cover up the shiny aluminum and it's done. It's enormously popular and doesn't compromise the security of the lock.

Sean,

That requires thought, work and effort; this is something the installers here are not used to putting into installs. ;) Get it in, get it out... no matter how it works or how crappy it looks.

Oy, I wish I had some pics. Thought I had some but guess an illustration would do. The cut line is right between the end and the edge of the "nameplate". I was fortunate to use an hydraulic corner notcher to shear off the chunk then smoothed the end with a fiber sander. Takes me a minute from start to finish.

Without it, I'd place it in the vise (cut side straight up) with a rag to protect the jaws from marring the lock, tape the cut line twice, mark a cut line and use a 32 tpi short blade and cut it. Keep in mind that when the portion is cut, it will close a tad more than the original position because it's no longer resting on the lip on the left, off setting the lock cylinder holes. With the electronic option used, you won't hear the "click" because the lock cylinder is still being held by the holes. Pulling the cover slightly will allow it to retract. Some depts don't mind it, some ask for the hole to be made slightly larger to allow it the piston to be unrestricted. It's important to taper the inside of the cut lip edge to allow it to roll off when pulling on the gun.

Any questions, ask away.

Sounds like job security for a quality installation company in the same area! If not, an opportunity then.

We are a quality installation company in this area and certainly have much higher standards than what rwo978 is used to. His dept. decision makers are resisting our services because we are 45 min. away. Some day we'll get in the door and all their problems will be solved......

I, and I'm sure many other officers, would love that. The rat's nest there now, with every car we get done, is just unacceptable IMHO.

Jared, if the installation images shown on your website are any indication, you don't need to tell me that you're a quality installation company! Hopefully things will work out for you and that your workmanship will open doors in the future.

doors are opening, I have several accounts that drive over 100 miles and right past many competitors because my upfits look great and work for the life of the car guaranteed. We try and get enough info. from the customers to impress them, but if things need to be remounted or adjusted, so be it. The job isn't complete until the customer is a raving fan....

Competion is good. It'll make the 'monopoly' here think a little bit about cleaning up their act.

I agree. However, I run my rifle on the roof and the shotgun on the passengers side in one of the angled Santa Cruz mount.
