Single prisoner cage system

My Sergeant and I are in the process of gathering information (photos, input from other agencies, installers etc.) regarding single cage prisoner transports. Being a city with our own jail we naturally have a jail transport van which we utilize from time to time with picking up prisoners in the field to free up the arresting officer. With this in mind this allows us the potential to have single cages for our fleet rather than the standard double cages since our resources for transportation are so close compared to a county or state agency.

Our thought process is a couple things:

1) We are finding with the newer sedans (we have the caprices in our fleets) their trunks are not space friendly and we are finding it’s not efficient to quickly access gear we need in an emergent situations because of how limited the space is and with how deep the trunk goes (gear goes flying way up front while driving making retrieval a little difficult). We are entertaining the idea of making the driver’s side rear portion an open area for storage of critical gear (rifles, shotguns, less than lethal platforms, shields etc.) and the trunk can be for less than critical items like gloves, evidence bags etc.

2) With the sedans we are finding they are not quite as comfortable as the crown vics so larger officers are having a difficult time with being comfortable for long periods of time in the car and their egress and ingress is compromised. Having only the cage on the passenger side will help this problem.

Does anyone have photos they can share of singe cage set ups they've installed or pictures of your own agencies set ups?

Thanks,

Blake

Not anywhere where I can get you a photo. Pro Guard offers a seat insert with the option of closing off only the section behind the passenger. This allows for open access behind the driver and a lot more leg, body room. Good side: more room. Down side: if you arrest more than one perp you have to call for another unit.

Olathe KS PD uses them in all their units. (we acquired a few units from them-hence we have the pro guard set up now).

Not sure if this helps.

Here is the link: Here is a photo.
