It has been a while since I last visited this site. During the IACP tradeshow in Orlando, FL someone posted information about a new sound off lightbar that has been keep pretty quiet. I believe the name was the Vortex. I have searched this site but have not been able to find that post. Does anyone know any information about a potential new lightbar from sound off? Thanks for the help.

The new lightbar from Sound Off is called the Apex bar. The best way to describe it is that it is a hybrid of the ETL5000 and the EPL8000 (Pinnacle) bars. The new lightbar will have the directional punch of the ETL5000 while having the off axis visibility and light spread of the Pinnacle's Fusion Technology, but even better than a hybrid of both. There are big expectations for this lightbar and it's official release is highly anticipated.

There was a discussion on another thread about this from the St Louis Police Fleet Expo I believe. A member was able to capture some pictures of the bar. There are no official press releases or information from Sound Off, other than what they choose to release and let people see at the big trade shows. Sirennet also had a glimpse of it on their Sirennet TV portion of their website from Cops West I believe, but they didn't have much to say about it on their particular video. The people who have seen it in person have had very positive thoughts on the lightbar and from what I understand it blows all of the other current bars out of the water.

Interesting lenses. I've been waiting for the various companies to do more with that portion of the optics, there is a lot of potential.

That deck light looks pretty cool.

Im surprised whelen hasn't made a dual color or level inner-edge

The Apex is an extremely nice product. Release date has not been given. The optics are great, the output is very bright, it was tested and found to be the most aerodynamic design currently available, and it looks absolutely tits!

Decklight was a custom product made at the request of a state highway patrol. Apparently the other manufacturer(s) they approached weren't interested. SOS stepped up and won their business. I had dinner with the fleet guy from that agency at last year's PFE. He had nothing but good things to say about SOS. Last I heard, the dual-level design was going to production.

man those lenses look friekn nice never seen nothin like it.

The Apex has taken the off-axis capabilities of the Pinnacle design to the next level. It offers excellent warning at all angles without adding more LEDs, without using a radical design (like a V-bar), and without adding substantial cost. Is is the brightest/best ever? I don't know that it is, but it was brighter, IMO (based on the prototype I saw) than current SOS bars (which are as bright as almost anything I've seen), had better off-axis, is much more aerodynamic than anything else out there based on wind-tunnel tests, and looks really sharp. I like the new mounting feet vs the current offerings. I like the sloped leading and trailing edges. I like the clear end caps. I recall the LED take downs as being brighter than the Pinnacle versions.

I agree, the apex is quite the piece of equipment. so far I've been told the pricing is going to be close to that of the ETL, but not quite, yet more than the pinnacle. Hopefully they will be shipping soon.

I've seen Internet prices for the APEX starting at nearly $1800. Was hoping to see the median prices closer to a grand rather than two grand.

Also, the catalog mentioned a new LED version of the MTL 2000 arriving this year. I thought there was an LED version of the MTL 2000 already available, or is this something new and different?

Finally, I'd love to see a lightbar built around the Ghost modules, plus a stand-alone traffic director consisting of Ghost modules. That'd be epic.

:Rumour: The APEX i was told was like a lightbar having a bunch of SOS Intersectors in one bar. The bar they said will be brighter and cheaper than the current Pinnacle but have probably half of the functions of the Pinnacle. I asked about the rear TD bar and the 2 color split as the Pinnacle now does and I was told that it is something they are looking into. They are wanting to make this a more cost effective bar and by adding the duo TD colors in the rear then they will have to add more models which causes an increase in price.

BUT.... anyways I was told that it would be Summer or a little later before you see these "offically" out due in part to patent and also heard that Sound Off is making this design a new style "product line" if thats what you want to call it with Dual head Dashlights, 4 & 6 Pushbar lights and Traffic Directors with this pattent.

I guess only time will tell! :woohoo:

Me thinks so too....it would be the lowest profile TD stick I can think of.

Just thought that everyone would enjoy this.

Also, per the guys at FDIC from the Sound Off factory, the Apex probably won't be shipping until mid-Summer.

Cajin, you're right a Ghost TA/warning bar would be awesome. Hopefully we will see one in the future, or one that utilizes the Fusion optics (other than the rear deck Interior Pinnacle of course). More lights with the Fusion optics in them would be great. They have some things they are currently working on, so it will be interesting to see what is to come.
