This is my question. I would never get one but that's because our assigned cars have lights. But I am curious on how many BCM's/cars have "burned up" because of one of these. I see a LOT of people bash them with the generic catch all, "That's a great way to burn up your car!" but have never heard a real, first hand account of it happening. How many instances of a speed turtle failing and disabling a vehicle do you know of?
What worries me is that direct connection to the BCM - and the warning in the Speed Turtle instruction manual, "The use of the EFM 3.0 may shorten the life of the vehicle’s light bulbs, headlight assemblies, and electronic modules."
There have been reports (I've seen one personally) of BCMs getting cooked by these "flasher" devices. At the end of the day, they're abusing the BCM in a way it was never designed for... and they're playing a dangerous and expensive game. The new stuff may be just fine, I don't know (and don't intend to find out). But it has happened in the past.
Good info, I appreciate thatFully disabling? Not many to be honest.

Hi there everyone, I purchased a Speed Turtle 3.0 for my 2021 Chevy Silverado from a facebook group. I took the time to read the instructions and download the STE Configuration software to my laptop and checked off what I wanted to flash for the module. Speed Turtle Easy Flash Module 3.0 (for 2017+ Trucks)
It appears the updated module (version 3.0) has come out for the 2017 and up trucks. I was wondering if anyone has installed this updated one in their truck and what do you think? There appears to be a huge difference between the 2.0 and 3.0 versions in how they connect to the truck. The 2.0 bein...www.gm-trucks.com

Perhaps I'm just old school. You may install it and run it daily for years and never have an issue. I hope that's the case. I know someone who has one on their POV they use to respond to daytime calls and they've never had an issue. But I'm putting independent systems in mine.
It's your truck, dude. Do what you want and best wishes.![]()
I don't think you read these comments you linked. Most of them are positive. Without a baseline of how many are out there, there can be no way to determine what these things may or may not impact. Say there are four failures out of a thousand units sold...that would be like four light bars from a major manufacturer, out of a thousand, getting moisture inside of them. And anyone that's been around knows four light bars out of a thousand getting moisture in them is a low number...Fully disabling? Not many to be honest.
