Green Bank WV.
I just received a stratolite 80 according to the imprint on the dome. Does anyone have any info On this type of light ? It is the 4 beam version. Any help would be appreciated

That's the dome's ID. Might be a Peterson beacon from the sound of it. Do you have a pic of the light?

I thought NA Sig used them! Just didn't know for sure... So, Rick, you may have either:

a Peterson 759 beacon

or a North American Signal 400X beacon

The Stratolite brand is owned by the plastic company Acutek Inc.

The Stratolite 77 are used by Arrow 530 & 531, Unity RV-25 and Do-Ray 4004.

The Stratolite 79 is used by Unity RV-15.

The Stratolite 80 are used by Arrow 550 & 551 and North American Signal 400X & 400XD.

Several other companies like Southern Vehicle Products and Peterson sold lights from Arrow and North American Signal under their own name.

I do not know what lenses that are used on Star's lights. They might also use these lenses.

Post a picture of your light and we will tell you.

crownvic it is neither of those two you have pictured .My has a beveled bottom . If someone will pm me with the instructions I will post a pic or e-mail it to someone to post for me. Thanks

Not a problem, Rick. I'll throw it up here:

You have a either a Signal Stat or Smith and Wesson beacon, because both of them had that distinctive base style. Somebody may have more info on these than I.

Helpful hint: When posting pictures, look for the image code link that shows up under the picture with these characters:

Copy the link and then paste in your replies. Hope this clears up things with picture uploads .

It look like Signal-Stat 374 with a wrong lens.

It might also be a Yankee 354 with a wrong lens but most likely a Signal-Stat 374.

I think the Signal-Stat and the Yankee was the same exept that they used their own lenses.

Smith & Wesson had a higher lens retainer ring and their own lens.

The Stratolite 80 lenses/domes are just about the only readily available new replacement domes on the market for the large beacons.

They fit most of the vintage brands of 4 beam, and large 2 beam beacons.

John Dorgan sells them at a very reasonable price.

I just put three brand new Stratolite 80 clear domes on our three brushbreakers, which have the Signal-Stat 311 (Formerly Dietz 211/711)

Now we have crystal clear new domes on the trucks. (and guess who has the original Sig-Stat domes)

What would a reasonable price be for a red lense that would fit this light ? Would like to get one if I can find one. will also post in the wanted section just not sure of pricing .

tried the tip you gave me crownvic :D :D thanks it was not as hard as I thought

You're welcome. Didn't notice that until now :?

@toon80 Good question.. the Stratolite 80 does fit Fed 184/284 beacons.. and Deitz 7/211 beacons..
Grote from my experience seems to be on the tall side for their domes.. do either of the other domes fit your grote?

The Dietz 2-11 is definitely too low for the grote 54. The rotating assy touch the dome. Width-wise, it seems to be almost a fit, but a bit too narrow. With force I could be persuasive enough to get it to fit, but I think it would crack over time...

I'M asking because these domes seems to be the only thing wortth trying, besides the $$$$ fedsig power light domes.

@toon80 My concern would be the dome being too short, like the Fed F2 domes were on my grote beacons..
I think grotes lamp assembly is on the tall side.. What about a unity dome?

Hi Michael,

thanks for the information. I have a NOS red Grote 54 dome already. I'm looking for a blue one, which is pretty hard to find. I was thinking stratolite domes could do it so they would look the same.

@toon80 Can you measure the height of the dome? I can do the same with one of the Strat 80's I have and see if they are close enough to work.

Ok, before anyone says it.. yes these pictures are sucky! You try holding a camera in one hand and a measuring tape in another and get an accurate picture... lol

The center measuring from the outside is just about 6" in depth.. +/- a mm or 2.
From the inside it measures about 5 3/4 +/- a mm or 2..
Hard to get the inner depth with just one hand.. hope this is somewhat helpful.

I have a 7624 and a Stratolite 80 out in the barn. I’ll go down tomorrow morning and try to mate them. I’ll let everyone know what I find.

OK, I tried it out. Good news is the Stratolite 80 and the Grote 54 domes are very close in size. The height is good. The bad news is that something is just a little off and I couldn’t get the retaining band to close. Maybe trimming the rubber gasket or sanding the lip of the dome a bit would do it. It was very close but I didn’t want to force it and possibly break the clasp on the band. Again, it was real close and what the problem was wasn’t obvious- something or a combination of somethings was conspiring to keep the band from closing.
