Streethawk Project

Morning,

I bought this Streethawk as a project, much my wife’s confusion when it was delivered last night,

It looks like someone’s replaced the outer drivers rotor at some point and they had an unhealthy obsession with taping stuff up.

I’ve applied power to the incoming cable but other than a clicking relay I’m getting nothing. I’ve worked through with the power and I can get all the rotors to operate with just one lighting up (guessing it’s just blown bulbs). The Drivers side alley and front and rear Passenger takedown/marker also work.

Does anyone know why the International models use relays for the rotors and the domestic ones don’t? That’s where my problem seems to be.

The components in the international schematic are not relays - these are voltage regulators. For quieter running, they used the faster (rubber-bearing) rotators.
And so that they turn just as fast as the standard rotator they reduced the voltage from 12V down to 9V.
This is how the voltage Regulators Looks:

Honestly I don’t think it’s an international version. I think someone put in relays so they could use low current switching in the vehicle vs needing high current switches to run the bar.

Ah right, Yea that’s what was shown on the International wiring diagram. I assumed because I got it in Europe that it would be. Might be a US version.

These are definitely relays, all tested ok.
I then thought I’d check through some connections and this happened. It’s a ground connection to the chassis, so could have been a high resistance. The whole thing needs cleaning down, I’ll keep working on it.

thanks for the info.

It’s not a museum piece, but I’m happy enough for a first attempt. A quick clean, could do with wet sanding the domes again, but one is cracked so not going to spend hours at it.
All the lights are working. The biggest problem was someone has connected up a relay the wrong way around, also the ground return through the bar was heavily corroded so I recrimped the negative wires and ran a new wire to link up all the ground points back to the supply.
