The firefighter's helmet is perhaps, the single most recognized peice of equipment associated witht he fire service. It is most often customized by the user, and "salted" from years of waging war against the red devil.

Many of us here collect fire helmets, and we were talking in the chat the other day about a thread to show them off...so..here it is;

First up is my personal in service lid..an old cairns leather New Yorker with impact cap, pre ratchet. I have worn this helmet for 17 years and it has seen plenty of fire duty. I will not paint itif I get promoted..i will buy a new one..

I bought this helmet from a guy locally - it is an old 5a from the department I dispatch for - however, it is from when they had volunteers! They have been a fully career department for as long as I can remember. These are very hard to come by!

This New Yorker was given to me by a girl i work with. Her father retired from my job a few years ago due to medical reasons after nearly 40 years on the job! He retired at captain, but this is his Lieutenant helmet from the 80's...very salty~!

A guy at work traded me this helmet for an archery target I had...n5a with impact cap and no ratchet...this will be my Chief helmet when I make it!

It has my old Lieutenant device on it for now.

These are my Son's helmets...lol...

The realer looking one is a knock off costume rendition of the Ben 2 by Morning Pride...I put the decals and Bourkes on and my old Truck Company device...it looks pretty real! Not bad for an 8 year old!

These two were my Wife's...we met through the fire service and married 11 years ago.

The plastic 880 was her first lid, with my first Lieutenant device, the other is my first New Yorker, which I gave to her when we met. She served as the first female FIRE Lieutenant in her department, which oddly enough, is now MY department!

Like I said last night Bro - I LOVE that Chief's hat!

thankyou :) Yea he is not the kind of FF with a white hat to sit and watch, as you can see from just 10 years of use on that. the balck one was his a long time ago and is now mine. In 26 ish years of FF-ing he went through i believe 3 leather helmets and a few plastic ones. This is a link to the helmet stands i made for his and my helmets.

Sorry the video is so bad :D

Later i'll get more pics if i remember.

LOL..it is basically a big L shaped table for now - my son is 8 and still takes the tracks apart, changes them, etc...so no scenery or grass, etc yet...

It is very overbuilt, sturdy strong....12 feet long and 4 to 7 feet wide.

NICE LID!

Thanks for the link too - very cool stuff for a helmet collector like me!

Thanks. Not bad for a helmet I got for free. A friend of mine had it issued to him from our former VFD. I had a Cairns 660 Metro. He had the Leather and he hated it. When I moved, I swapped him my Metro for his Leather. :duh: :woot:

The Old Dept. was a Chieftain with Glo-Flex decals

My New Liberty one is a Cairns 360 Structural. Quite comfy. Note that all FF's get white and Officers get Black (I know it's back-asswards but thats how it is...)

well my helmet I posted is now retired. I have put a hole in the top part of it and it is cracked around the bottom where the insides of the helmet connects to dome.

How'd you do that?
