The New Ride - 2011 Ford Edge Limited

Well I have finally started to install the lights in my new ride. This is used as my daily driver and my demo vehicle.

Right now all that's done is the front.

  • 911EP, 24" TD/WL - Amber with red flashing ends
  • SOS, Ghosts - White
  • Whelen, Spitfire - Amber/White
The plan for the rest is as follows.

Rear;

911EP, 36" TD/WL - Amber with red flashing ends

SOS, 3 LED - Amber (2) on a license plate bracket

SOS, 3 LED - White Spot Light on a license plate bracket (tied into the back-up lights)

Side;

Whelen, Dual Dominator Plus - Red/Amber (back side window)

SOS, Intersector - Amber

The plan is to rig a wireless system to control some of the lights and tie it all together using a SOS, 380 Series Remote Siren. Speakers will be Whelen SA315 (2).

I will post more pics when the work gets done.

I hope you plan on fixing that SpitFire... That would drive me INSANE!!! But it looks to be a clean install so far...

Are you going to add anything in the front for intersection warning? Personally I think it needs something aiming to the sides for when entering intersections. Maybe some SOS intersectors mounted under mirrors? Otherwise I think it looks awesome. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I would go with a 10-99 LP bracket... You're mirrors dont enter the intersection first... LoL Correction: That should be 10-75, not 10-99... My bad

is it just me or can anyone else not stand the ghost mounted on the hood?

I actually like them mounted like that... Gives a great mid-level waraning...

I think it would look better up under the RVM, it would give you a nother level of warning, but that's just me...

It's in the plans...

I'm not familiar with the 10-99 LP bracket and I cant find it on there site.

Oh... I can't put it up by the RVM... sensors there too and my highway transponder!

This is a leased vehicle so I'm trying to make as few holes as possible to demonstrate that you can have an effective warning package without having to do a bunch of damage to mount it.

I understand that, but I hear good things about them.

A LP bracket could be made easily enough for the front of your vehicle.

Why so much Amber? Is amber considered and emergency color there?

That 10-75 bracket looks good, might have to look into that further.

As for the amber... most of my customer base uses amber so that's what I demo. I have a power point in the rear so I can demo anything thats not part of the set up on the truck; like different heads or colors.

I am concerned because there are several things wrong here. I am from Ontario...nowhere is anybody allowed any flashing red except government agencies. Ontario firefighters use green on their personal vehicles (this vehicle is plated and has the window sticker as being operated by a firefighter) and there is no use for a siren on a POV because they are not allowed up here...with Amber leds? I apologize if you are a light installer, but your plates mislead the meaning of this vehicle...an installer would have a lightbar or more lighting to show clients their capabilities...and as a true demo car would have red/blue to accompany the siren...and in Ontario (being friends with a large installer in Eastern Ontario and in Ottawa)...it is law that demonstration vehicles are so marked as to not look like undercover officers...
something is OUT OF WHACK HERE.

I know the OP of this thread, and I met him a few years ago. He is on the up and up, more so considering his "normal" day job. (and the associated security clearances he holds for said job) He owns his own lighting/install company on the side.

I am pretty sure you have reviewed the HTA prior from your comments above- but for some reason I know of a few very limited persons permitted to legally run red on their POV in Ontario.. You may want to review the Highway Traffic Act- R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER H.8, PART VI, Section 62, subsection 14. Also review subsections 15 and 15.1 . While you are there also check out subsections 16 and 16.1 .

Now moving along to the siren.. Normally this would be a no no, but again, considering his side company, he is permitted to have it installed. He simply cannot use it on public roadways, nor does he.

I can also say quite confidently the local police in his area know of him, his company, vehicle and installed "toys". If something was amiss, it would of already been dealt with.

I was wondering the same thing, looks like you are facing the wrong way on one-way street...

I love the new Edge's. That's a great looking SUV, and the install looks very sleek. Now you just need a video.

No problem...I understand...thank you. I apologize for coming off the wrong way. I understand the siren etc... as I own an antique police car and similarly to him...it can be installed but just don't use it or you're done.

Aside from any former concerns, it does look awesome. I have to say it is clean.

You can mount the Spitfire in the middle, above the sensor, using those ugly cups... ;) I have seen it done so on Medics BMW X1s here, for which the central lock sensor stands also in the middle of the dash (although with an Axixtech Titan, which is almost similar in size).

As for the Ghosts... I don't like them clipped on the hood edge, and I'm just wondering how long they will stay before some idiot rips them off...

+1 I have heard many horror stories about mini lightbars and light heads ripped off cars, especially in the OP's area...

The middle sensor is for the automatic headlights. If you block it the sensor thinks it's night and the lights come on. The way around it is to not use the auto-on.

It was a "right time / right spot" scenario... the sun was just at the right spot, road was under construction with the lane closed (what you don't see is the construction equipment behind me) with little traffic in a residential area.

I paid big bucks for those HID headlights with the auto feature!! I might not leave that Spitfire there anyway, I like a clean dash. Besides I can always demo that on the clients vehicle.

As for the idea of the lights being stolen... I'm not concerned about it. If you have ever installed a ghost then you are familiar with the mounting system. I do a little trick with an extra piece of metal to help distribute the pressure the screws exert on the underside of the hood. This also allows a much larger "grip" surface for the mount.

I realize there are a number of people on here that have a genuine concern when they see a vehicle all "done up" for no apparent reason other than to mis-lead. I can assure you that is not my intention!

If anyone doubts my legitimacy as a dealer/installer they can look me up or give me a call...

You sure about that ?

In my X1 the exact similar sensor is for central lock, the light sensor being in the windshield mirror assembly... Thus a dashlight atop the dash sensor does not impede anything. But hey, I'm not a Ford specialist ! ;)
