The Ultimate Vintage Police Car Thread

Ok, since we all love a good vintage police vehicle, time to have the ultimate collection. Can include DARE vehicles etc

By Vintage I'm talking pre-90s

Please try and state what it is, and what agency.

One minor correction... The Warwick Plymouth is not a Fury, it is a Satellite. In 1974 the Fury was still based on the larger "C" body chassis while this was the smaller "B" Body chassis. This would all change in 1975, when the C body car would adopt the Gran Fury name regardless of trim level, including police sedans (prior it had been the more upscale trim version), and the Satellite name would be dropped and the B body would now be christened the Fury (similar deal with Dodge although slightly different timing. The Monaco would remain on the C body until 1976, the B body known as the Coronet. In '77, the C body would now be the Royal Monaco across all trim levels - it had previously been the top of the line trim package - and the Coronet name would be dropped and the smaller B body would now assume the Monaco name). THIS is a '74 Fury:

They don't have sirens...the speaker is there for show. They strap a mime to the roof of the car.

I know this isn't a police car, but it's sooooo cool. Just needs a purple beacon.

Grafton, Massachusetts' 2nd and 3rd marked cruisers with split Blue/Red Model 17 Beacon Rays.

The 1961 was being retired, and the equipment was transferred to the 1962

While they still owned the '61, they had a blue Fire Ball on the dash.

HILO, FYI your third picture in isn't a 1978 Gran Fury as there was no Gran Fury in '78 or '79. The Gran Fury name was dropped after the demise of the C body chassis in 1977 and not resurrected again until 1980 when it was based on the R body chassis. The R body police MoPars included the '79 Chrysler Newport, '80/'81 Plymouth Gran Fury and '79-'81 Dodge St. Regis. The car you have pictured is either an '80 or '81 Gran Fury

The Plymouth Caravelle was by far more popular in Canada then the Dodge Diplomat. There is about 29 police services (From what i could find on police canada) in Ontario that used the Caravelle, and maybe 5 or so that used the Diplomat. The Caravelle was only sold in Canada so maybe thats why. Go with the Canadian version of the Diplomat

Where I live, both the city PD and the RCMP used Caravelles.

Here's my ex-LA County detectives car. Been trying to come up with a good nick-name for it, "Dirty Harry" stuck. Still need to get after the broken exhaust manifold, local SO is on to me...

I remember the first time I went to Toronto seeing a yellow PD car, and thinking (at first glance) that it was a taxi. What are what appear to be black boxes on the lightbar of that car?

Two of the cruisers I drove during my career, an '86 LTD/Crown Victoria and a '91 Caprice. I designed the graphics for our department from '86 until '09.Sorry 'bout the '91... forgot the guidelines were pre-'90's.

I'll call that Caprice classic, since they've all pretty much been retired.

OK, not technically a police car. I thought identifying the siren might pose a challenge for some of the folks here.

If "The siren fanatic" says it's a horn, then a horn it must be. Thank you!

I know: 'Jazz, you're not posting vintage police cars.'

Here's an old ambulance. Look at the size of this thing. You could hold a dance in there.

It's just an early van-based ambo. It doesn't look any bigger than the van-based ambos that were built from the 1970s to the early 1990s.

Maybe the people were smaller back then. Or, in Ontario the gravity is greater and squashes the residents down. I don't know. I guess I'll stick to posting my photos in the longest thread. I know where I'm appreciated. :sadcry:

The second wagon looks like it has a Federal SA24 speaker on the passenger side fender. If it has a Federal electronic siren it is probably a PA5 or PA10 (c. 1960-1962) or a PA15 or PA20 (the PA15 and PA20 have wail, yelp and alert tones, c. 1962-1966).
