My cousin called me today and told me that they had a bunch of older stuff at his VFD that they were going to throw away, and that I could come pick through it if I wanted to. Of course I said yes, and ended up with a couple of neat things.

First I got a Whelen Pierce Alert, not really vintage per say but still neat.

I got a Code 3 Intensity Strobe Bar Model XS 8000, everything works on it. I had never seen one of these before and think its kind of neat. Not sure if there is any real collectible value in it.

I also got a Code 3 Force 4 Lightbar. I initially did not want to take it because I though "Another Force 4 lightbar, I already have one, nothing real special there" but I took it anyway thinking I could at least get the siren speaker out of it and use. Upon getting home and investigating it more closely I realized it had the Stingers on both sides of the light bar. I am not sure how common that was on this style bar but I have never seen it before so I thought that it was pretty cool. Everything works, but it is going to have to be re-wired. I am not sure who got to messing with the inside of the bar but the wiring is kind of jacked up. Nothing that cannot be fixed though.

Got a couple of Whelen Sirens that are in rough shape cosmetically.

I also got some Code 3 Model 550 beacons, nothing much exciting there but they do work! There is a date stamp inside of 12-91

Lastly is this Whelen Lightbar. I am not very familiar with the Whelen Bars so I am looking to you Whelen experts out there for some help. I am assuming the is a Model 8002 from what I can tell from the catalog archives. The labels on the bar are faded/gone so I am not 100% sure on that if someone can help there. I am not sure what happened wiring wise, but the bar needs some help. A lot of the internal factory wiring has been cut and hacked and moved around. I am not real familiar with what goes where and fooled around with it a little, but did not do a lot because I did not want to mess anything up. The only thing that I could get to work was one of the cruise lights. Any help as to what wire does what (or at least what it is supposed to do) in the harness would be appreciated. Also in the last picture you can see that two pronged white plug with the half melted fuse and fuse holder on it. Can anyone help with what that is and what it is supposed to be hooked to?

The xs bar is kind of neat. Most of the ones I saw were the ecconomy version with 4 strobes and 4 halogens. There were several versions of the bar, (internl strobe housing/tube and power supplys) but I seam to recall they had power supply issues.

The early intensitys had power supply issues . That was corrected by putting computer fans at the end of the power supply frame and blowing air over the circuit board . Before having the fans , The circuit board would get so hot the components on the circuit board would drop out of place when the solder melted .

Did not hear of that one. But I do know they had issues with the caps (that were on the back of the strobe head) would get too hot and leak, also the slave/master systems were another design flaw. If either one went south, you had to order the complete setup.
