Hello fellow light lovers!
Here is something, amongst others, that the Canadians will especially like.
I saw an add a month ago with this hard-to-find 4-way flashing beacon. It had the wrong dome and the base was in a sad shape, but since I've been looking for one for 5 years, I took a shot at it. The gaskets were still there and in good shape.
It so started as this:
I took it compeltely apart and started to grind off the rust on the base and along the lens gasket with a Dremel and a bench wire wheel. This took me there:
You can see here 2 nasty holes in the base, square and round ones, that someone cut off for who-knows-what reason:
I thought about what was the best way to repair it and since the base is made of steel and is not chromed, I tried some Bondo Fiberglass-epoxy kit to fill the gap. I then sanded-off the excess and I must say the results are pretty clean for a first try.
After some primer and black glossy enamel spray paint, the base and mounting plate are ready to be re-assembled.
Then I took off the oxidation on the lamp holders and and central pillar.
Left side done, right side to be done:
All the pieces ready to be put together again:
Flashing unit re-assembled:
I then took a spare amber dome in close to NOS condition and put it on.
And the beacon fully assembled:
...and lit:
Missing things are the tag, which was gone from the beginning. Also an alternative flasher to flash pairs of opposite lamps.
Again, thanks Christian (DiscoMC) for the dome rubber pads and some leads to find a few pieces.
I hope you enjoy this oldie but a goodie
