I did this on the last board, and try to do it on every new board. Hopefully this is the last one I have to make.

Please post the Brand and Model of the siren along with the video (or audio) link. This will aid in searching.

The Federal Interceptor funny tones video is a demo of the PA20A series 2E (c. 1970s, high-pitched tones). Series 2E is the version of the Interceptor that will do the funny tones.

Remember the first Unitrols that came out in the mid 70's? Slider, knob for function, another for PA volume, light status array (amber, red, blue) went bottom to top n left side of the face panel IIRC, had some toggles and double/split toggles for other stuff. I think it was the "800" model- but not sure. Pics or video?

Everyone who makes a sirens needs to add that to their list of tones.
Fixed. :p Too bad that...

1. That siren was made up by sound effects guys and was never a real siren to begin with.

2. That sound affect was speed up in the cartoons, making the siren cycle faster.

3. Big bucks are needed for legal fees as the siren is copyrighted.

gets to call dibs on the first siren off the line should anyone made one.

There is a demo video of a Unitrol 800 somewhere on YouTube. From what I can remember the tones were somewhat low-pitched and it had a fast yelp.

Here's a video I shot after we put some Grover Emergency horns on the rescue at my squad. The truck has a V-Con and an Xecutor.

Speaking as a sound FX guy, All siren tones are "sound effects" designed by a guy who got paid a rediculous amount of money. All a siren is, is an amplifier that plays "samples" or tones. But thats only if you wanna get technical.

Does anyone have a demo of the old North American push-button electronic siren.

We had these in our cars back in the 80's. It had a "riot" mode that was great.

Would love to hear it again.

Well, here it is. My first YouTube video. It's kind of goofy, but that's just my nature.

In this video I am demonstrating my favourite electronic siren. Everyone has their own idea of what sounds 'best', so I thought I'd throw my own personal preference out there.

I never cared much for the X-Ecutor. I had a Federal EQ2B that was awesome. Only thing I didn't like was the size of the amplifier. And the airhorn tone was something else. But the yelp sounded like crap.

One thing I've noticed missing in this thread is Tim Parker's (Henry455) restored B&M S8B on his YouTube site. This is one of the longest rolling sirens I've seen in a very long time. Kevin O'Connell who owns B&M did the restoration. His work is something else!

does anyone have a clip of a darley mechanical?

Darley's mechanicals were built by Federal, so it depends on which you're looking for. For the most part the Champions came from the 66 and EW class Federals.

I'm looking at the newer ones in their catalog. Just wondering how they sound before dropping the coin. Thank you for the info.

Which catalog do you have? I have their current "Fire" catalog and the only two mechanical sirens shown are the Federal Q at $2000 and a small "burgular alarm" sized siren at $81. The last mechanical sirens that Darley carried with the Champion label were built by a company in Chicago called Auto-Matic Products Co. They started out building sirens for boats and then as burgular alarms. But then they also started building for North American (their S-1 and S-2 sirens) and for Darley. They had a considerable range of products, but all of their sirens came in two sizes: 6" (like a Federal EG) and 4" (like a Federal "O" or "VG"). The ones that I've seen were well built, and considerably less money than their Federal counterparts. I'm not sure when Federal quit building for Darley, but I would guess around 1978, when they dropped all but the Q. They continued building the WLs for export for a short time, but I think that they were dropped by the early to mid-80s. I bought an NIB WL from Summers Coach in Duncanville, TX in 1986 for $125. It was one of the last production models that they had obtained for their then-line of export ambulances. And this one had sat around for awhile.
