I made a video (not the greatest quality) that shows the current mech tone, the "M" tone and the "Q" tone as they sound when included on the various generations of 295 sirens. Note I state in the video the 295Q as built around 2001, I see in my catalogs it was offered closer to 2002 to 2004, the M version was made for about 3 or 4 years after that and was replaced by models with programmable tones.

Here are audio only files if you want to hear the

Alpha12Q

Or the Executor

If you play the Alpha Q sound file over the 295 Q portion of the video they are identical. The Modern 295 and 295 M sound slightly different. The "Q" version of the tone stayed pretty similar in the few years it was offered. What started as the "M" and is now just a mechanical tone option on the programmable sirens has changed slightly in pitch and wind down over the years. Of course the Executor is completely different.

IMHO, the 295Q has a more satisfying wind up and cycle (it’s like they were spoiling for a lawsuit…FSQ?). The newer models don’t seem to go as high in pitch. Too bad they couldn’t have a “brake” at the end of the wind down cycle. Thanks for the videos!

The Alpha Q and the Executor Q both have brake functions... standby for a later video.

295HFSQ1 gets my vote.

Question- Was there a speaker out there that could match the volume of the actual Q siren?

The Whelen Xecutor siren and speaker, when used together, produce twice the sound pressure level of the Federal Q.

Regarding the Federal Q:
Beautifully streamlined and polished electro-mechanical siren produces 123 decibels at 10-feet.

Regarding the Whelen Xecutor:
This arrangement produces 126 dB of sound pressure at a distance of 10 feet from the reverse folded horn speaker.
