There was a Connecticut State Police magnetic trunk shield on eBay recently that sold for $150+.

Also, notice the seller's location of Chester, CT, which is Whelen's home, so he may have a ton of their vintage stuff.

That's what I'm hoping... although some of it is going a bit high....

Check out eBay seller chesterchief10, who has a bunch of vintage Whelen lighting listed this week, including crossbars (paging Don S.) plus some NOS 5200 beacons (one in green!), and a NOS split dome high skirt strobe, among other items. Also, check out his completed auctions to see some of the other vintage Whelen stuff he has already sold.

Hey John, this is a just a headsup that he has posted some more stuff, including several unique and rare items and some that appear to be NOS. I made a separate thread for it with his eBay name in the title, since I thought there would be lots of interest, but if you want it merged with this one or vice versa, go ahead. If you will look in the background of some of his pics, he appears to have an attic full of vintage stuff. It might be worth an email to see if he will send some pics and sell some of it offline.

Whelen is based in Chester, CT. I wonder if the seller's name has anything to do with that...

I looked at one of the lightbars and in the picture you could see the tops of a bunch of other beacons. If this guy is well connected with Whelen and has been there awhile, I bet he has some top-notch stuff.

i'm not into whelen, but WOW thats some nice stuff!! someone is going to be very happy. I bet pimp has already booked a flight, lol

That's exactly what I said in one of John Marcson's related post in the vintage items for sale thread about this guy. Maybe he worked at Whelen years ago and accumulated all of these goodies by opting to get them instead of accepting overtime pay.....or maybe he is related to or was a close friend of Mr. Whelen himself and got dibs on the first production runs of each item. BTW, his eBay username brings back the thought of the longtime Chester Fire Chief that was featured in one of Whelen's catalogs awhile back before he passed away well into his 90s. Could this be some of the items from the dispersal of his estate?

On another note, wonder if the eBay seller is a member here? Probably not, but he should be! If he is even aware of elightbars, surely he would have disclosed his treasures to us first so we could get a headsup shot at them instead of unleashing them on the whole world. Then again, maybe he knows we probably wouldn't pay the prices he can get on eBay.

FYI...His name is Kenneth Reid. He is a retired police chief from Chester Ct.

Thanks Ford-dealer. I'll bet he knew George Whelen III personally.

He would have more success selling those treasures for a better price anytime except now. January and February are notoriously slow months to sell anything because this is when everyone recovers from financial straits because of holiday overspending.

Seems all of his auctions have been pulled, even amber dome beacons. I was watching the two model 88's, both pulled 3 days before the auction end date and with no bids.

Either someone offered him a price he couldn't refuse for a direct deal or if he had at least 3 listings with anything but amber then he got 3 violations and Ebay will suspend his privileges for a day which means all auctions are canceled.

Apparently the eBay police got to them, but he has just relisted them. They still have the colored domes, but he added to their descriptions about them being for collectors only. Lot of good that will do.

I figure he has already received some correspondence from some of the folks on here inquiring about them.

Which rat ba$ard dimed him out? Some lowballer who tried, but was refused an off site purchase? Looks like most have been relisted for a 3-day run anyway.

yeah he has some nice fixed up and nos stuff. but i have access to the super secret warehouse located on the east side of the ct river

They went for a lot... 5000 commander for over $500, the green 5200 for over $300

He has listed more stuff today, mostly Whelen, including a red/amber split dome beacon, but there are also a couple of Federal 184s.

There has been some nice stuff already listed and I can't help but wonder if the best is yet to come? If so, I hope there is a 5200 with a Vader housing and some NOS 8000 clear domes waiting to make their getaway!

I bid on the purple one. Hoping nobody here on the board effs me over too badly. Hint, hint. LOL

I won these two.... only ones that stayed in the range I am willing to pay. I'll post pics when they arrive.

Looks like you got a good deal on both John. I think that the NOS green wasn't too bad of a price either considering you don't see too many green domes in general.

Chesterchief10 has put some more stuff on eBay, including some green par 46 strobe bulbs, an 800 series purple dome, and a pair of unique 1200 series red/white split lenses that are horizontally split red on top and clear on bottom instead of the more common vertically split.

I got the horizontal split lenses, I'll post when they are here and installed.

He has put some more stuff on, including a couple of sirens.

...and the stuff just keeps on coming. Lots more just listed.
