Visabar clone idea using modern parts - Idea Ihad after seeing this light bar on eBay

So I was browsing around on eBay looking for LED spot/flood lights and ran across this light bar rack that looks allot like the old Federal Signal Visabar. The mounting feet are very close to the high mounts and the main bar looks like it would accept a model 100 rotator, same dome as the old Visabar modem 11 as on my current Visabar. The bar is adjustable from 44" to 60" and has those gutter hooks that allot of old cars have. I was thinking about getting this bar and making a clone for my 84 Suburban CUCV clone. I already have a real Visabar on my 86 Chevy M1031 CUCV maintenance truck.


Sure it will not be exact, but may be good for a low budget look for someone as it can be done for under $200 from eBay. Maybe I am crazy here, but I might give this a try and if not the maybe the feet are compatible with the real Visabar mounts. Looks like they may be.

Do it! lol Model 100 beacons are great anyhow, can't go wrong with a pair of 'em. (just make sure fleabay sends you a pair of the same speed/fpm rotators lol. The 100 sells in about 5 different rotator speeds)

At the time I did not know about the lightbar rack I am noting now here. I already have the model 100 from several months ago, bought them for something like this for the future. They are the same speed and both in great condition, but good point to note about the speed. I also have two NOS military 24v model 100 with PAR36 lights and blue domes. That was the reason I bought those two amber ones for the domes.


Anyway, I am going to get that bar and start on this project and will update in a few weeks. I do need to find a way to loose the shinny appearance as this will likely go on my 84 Suburban CUCV clone.

Plasti-dip. Whatever color you want. That way, when you want to go back to shinny, peel it off!

Got my clone finished today. One standard speed, one fast speed. Added 2 pair of Peterson/Grote Lollipops with an FA3 flasher in the base of one light. Video coming.

Seen this one in person. It sports red and blue now. Very nice and bright. Ryan did a great job on making this bar:thumbsup:.

Looks good, still have to build mine when I get some free time. I like how you reversed the one to rotate CCW so they both are not going the same direction.

I have been putting off buying the roof rack and looks like the eBay seller and the rest of them have put a $300+ price on these roof racks. So after calming down I was able to find them for cheaper and the actual manufacture web site. I doubt their hiked prices will last long, but that made me find it for allot less.

They are $49 shipped, seller has a good rating. So I bought two of them.
