What's good for home defense?

Not sure or your experience with firearms but most folks recommend 200-500 rounds of break in for NIB autos. If you can't afford a Glock, XD, Sig, etc. when it comes time to upgrade you might look at Ruger as an alternative. You can find good used ones on Gunbroker for 200-400. For the price you paid though...cant beat that.

I have 2 P-series guns (9, 45) and can say for fact they go bang every time. The 40 (SR40c) I just bought from them isn't bad either.
I will put more in to break it in. Just hard to get to a range right now but I'm going soon.

This is a "loaded" topic.. As your going to get alot of mixed personal fav brands.. I have heard nothing but bad things about Hi Point from people on the net and those friends who swear by S&W, Glock, etc. I have a few friends that own and have gone through thousands of rounds in the Hi-Point 9mm & 45 and they love them...

So really its all personal prefs. (like lighting manufacturers)

I have to agree with  Stampeed Valkyrie's comment...

Personally I own a Taurus 85, Taurus PT92C, S&W 686 9mm, Rossi 44spl, maverick 500, savage 30/30 pump & a Taurus Judge. (my fav is the Taurus 85)... Was goung to get a Ruger 357, but then the prices went up and I hit financial issues..

Home defence? the maverick 18" staggaered loads of .000 - .00 buck. If your found inside at nite, you will be found cut in 1/2 in the morning. B)

Enjoy your new gun, and be happy you didnt over pay for the name... ;)

Thanks. I love it. Yes, I would have preferred a "big name". I seriously looked into a Taurus Raging Bull .44 magnum but couldn't dish out the money. If I would've spent that, you can be sure my wife would've have a massive heart attack.

But from what I have shot my .45 it handles nice for me. It sits great in my hand and the recoil isn't too bad either.

Just kind of updating this. I have decided (meaning the wife said I could) to trade in my Hi Point once I get my jobs straightened out and get some bills paid off. I hate to get rid of it but I want something a little smaller.

I decided after shopping around to stick with a .45, but this go round I'm getting a Rock Island 1911. I've talked to 3 different gunstores and they all agree that it's a great 1911 to start out with. It's a medium frame also so they said it'd be great for me.

Anyone else had any dealings with Rock Island?
