I compare the various Whelen mechanical tones in this video

I go through and highlight the original Q tone, the earlier M version, and the current Mech tone. The sirens used to demonstrate are the 295 series, but the tones remain the same as their letter designation on other sirens.

So from what I can gather based on your video and the build date on the siren being sold (06/08), this would have the earlier M version? Keeping in mind that the Alpha and 295 series were slightly different (I think).

Then again, didn't the Alpha 12Q have the Xecutor tone?

The alpha Q was reported to have the executor tone, but it had a lot less wind down, the pitch was similar. My 295s and alphas of the same period and letter that I have sound similar; if not identical. There was a few months where the Q tone was sold under the M name when Whelen had been made to change the name but not the tone. Soon Whelen was forced change the tone too. Both due to legal action by Fed Sig. A 2008 M should have the real (not Q, not new mech) M tone. I should sound very close to the 295M in the video. The quality from best to worst IMHO goes executor, Q, M, current Mech.

All of this established this isn't a bad price for this siren, sorry to hijack the thread.
