Whelen CanTrol WC Gens

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the field of CanTrol, so please forgive me if I ask something silly.

I downloaded the Whelen Command System to program a CanTrol box, but I have the option of selecting Gen 2 or Gen 3. How can I tell which gen the box is and is 2 and 3 not compatible with each other's programming?
