Hey all, try as I might, finding info on specific programming in Whelen Command has been a chore. I recently bought a HHS3200 with the CANCTL5 handheld controller. I managed to program it pretty well to my liking with one exception. I installed my lights in a pickup, in a slick top manner. My truck has a toolbox in the bed and I put some lights on it, of those, 2 were dedicated as rear scene/cargo lights. I put the cargo lights and the rest of the rear scene on separate outputs. Cargo lights are on output 8 and the rest are on output 6. Likewise, I’ve assigned them different buttons on the controller, SW8 for the cargo and SW12 for the rear scene. What I am trying to do it have the cargo lights operate along with the rear scene when SW12 is activated/deactivated, but function independent of the rear scene when SW8 is activated/deactivated. Thought I managed to program this successfully by following the same model settings as the SL1,2,3 buttons. Here’s where I got lost…..When I pressed SW12, all the lights came on which produced and audible relay click in the siren followed by a slightly delayed relay click when it also kicked on the cargo lights/changed illumination on SW8. When I turned SW12 off, it turned it all back off. However, when I pressed SW8, the switch went red like it was activated, but no relay click and no lights…then I could not turn SW8 back off until I power cycled my ignition. No matter what I tried, when I tied the cargo into the rear scene activation, it did this. I haven’t messed with the virtual inputs, would this be the proper way to have these lights/switches function how I want? If so, how would I go about setting that up? Thanks in advance for any insight. If it’s not possible, no huge deal as I will just keep them separate like they are now and turn the both on when I want rear scene. If anyone wants to look over my program file, I’d be happy to send it for review.

There are many different ways to accomplish this. First off though, it seems strange that you cant turn on the outputs without cycling the ignition. Do you have the off state of SW12 turning off output 8?

Here is how I would do it; SW12 turns on output 6. SW8 turns on output 8. Dont set anything to turn off the output. Then click on SW12, go down to the bottom half of your command screen, and select inputs. Find your control head, and have SW12 set SW8 to on. Then go to the off state of SW12, and have that set SW8 to off. This way, SW12 is doing the work of turning on and off your SW8 button, but you will still be able to turn SW8 on or off regardless of the state of SW12.

Another way that you could do this, if you needed the extra button for something else, you could add an extra state to one of those buttons. First press turns on rear cargo output, second press turns on cargo output and rear scene output.
