Whelen M series vs Whelen Surfacemax

I want to hear people's thoughts on the Whelen M series lightheads vs the newer Surfacemax lightheads. I've seen the M series in person, but not the Surfacemax. My part time dept is upgrading a recently purchased apparatus and I'm looking at effectiveness while trying to juggle a budget. One of the big issues is the M series requiring adapters to fit existing hundred series mounts whereas the Surfacemax is backwards compatible.

well several series of M's mostly dual level lights of a smaller size then the surfacemax which appears to be single reflector series of lights, but I havent had a chance to see them yet on any of the Engines in our area, im guessing two levels of lighting in different flash patterns which the surfacemax is just one big light already of the same relative size to the 900's

Pretty sure the M series is brighter
