One of our sister stations was complaining about how while running code the lightbar would just cut out. Or while keying the mic the siren would stop running, they also couldnt keep the jeep charged. I offered to lend some help and see if i could track down what was going on. The jeep has a tomar strobe ligthbar with takedowns and alleys, corner strobes, a sho me siren and 2 radios. all controled by a brookings 6 switch console. I get the truck and find that they have a 12g and 18g running everything. one fuse for everything. Everything was rewired with 4g primary wire to a cuircut breaker then on to a solinod, which is set for ignition. from that it goes into a fuse block which goes 12g to each radio and siren, and 10g to the light bar and 2 10g to the switch box. it really amazed me that the truck lasted as long as it had, and to be honest that it hasnt caught fire. The company who did the install does most of the work for the area around us and it just amazes me.
